Which Loewe LCD tv and B&W speaker combination? What stand?
Having just moved house, an extra big flat tv is obviously essential!
We`ve looked/listened to the Loewe Individual 32" LCD tv with B&W 804s speakers, with the Naim N-vi. Loved it. However, I thought the tv might be a bit small - our room is approx 14` square, and we`ll be sitting about 10` from the screen (plus I`m very short-sighted!). So, we wondered about the Loewe Spheros R37 instead (not the masterpeice version), but that could cause a bit of a problem space-wise with fitting the speakers in too (we`re a bit limited by a stone fireplace). So we then wondered about the B&W XT4 speakers, as they are a bit slimmer. They were our original thought, but have not been able to listen to them yet.
Any thoughts out there? Also, any recommendations for stands for the combinations above?

is this a good dvd rewriter to get?
Hello all, need a bit of help please. I`m not particularly techy, but want to get a dvd rewiter to be able to backup my pc - my husband doesn`t fancy spending another month loading our rather large cd collection if our pc were to crash! - plus save digital photos. Probably not going to use it for films etc. So we don`t need anything too flashy. My brother has spotted a deal on Amazon which is a Samsung Dual Layer 16x DVD +/- RW Internal Writer + Roxio Creator 7 bundle for £54.96. This sounds a good deal, so would I be getting something good, or is it a turkey? Thanks for your help.

RE: Need suitable rucksack/suitcase for a bit of travellin...
Eaglecreek are a good brand - not cheap, but strong, well made and light. We have a `duffle case` which has wheels and a handle and you can get loads in it. My parents have one of their suitcase/rucksack cases - you can carry it on your back, or pull it using the handle/wheels. It even has a detachable day-sack on the front. Rohan stock Eaglecreek. Happy travelling!

Magimix food processors - which size?
To all you home cooks/chefs out there......hubby and I are starting to be more adventurous with our cooking (had a little gift from his Mum at Christmas as she has just retired, so treated ourselves to nice new saucepans etc - if only the spending had stopped there!) - made a very nice Goan prawn curry last night with all the spices......anyway, we (well, it was his idea!) are now considering getting a food processor. Magimix seems to be the brand, but we`re just not decided on which size....the 3100 sounds perfectly adequate, the 4100 has a slightly larger capacity, while the 5100 is the golden wotsits. My husband thinks we should the get biggest one, as although we might not need it now, as we start to cook more we may possibly need it, and cos Delia says you should get the most powerful motor you can. Any thoughts anybody?
Thanks!

RE: HELP!! Downloading CDs into iTunes
Thanks Anil, have tried but that doesn`t make a difference. Darn it! I`m guessing the problem is with iTunes as when I play a CD using Windows Media Player or RealOne Player it is fine, just playing/down-loading with iTunes it `delays`.
Anybody else got any bright ideas? Please?

HELP!! Downloading CDs into iTunes
Help guys! Not sure if this is the right forum, but I`m sure you`ll correct me if it isn`t. Here goes....
My husband has just got the iPod 4th Gen 40GB (and I`m dead jealous with gadget-envy!). We`ve started loading our CDs onto the computer and downloading them to the iPod, but we have just spotted that on every CD, the first track delays when it starts playing, so it starts part way through the song. >:( This only seems to affect the first song on every CD, every other one is fine. What has gone wrong, or what have we done wrong? Are we going to have to re-load all the first tracks? (Thankfully (!?!) we`ve only loaded a small part of our CD collection, a mere 143 albums. :/ ) AARGH!!
Really hoping somebody can help.........

RE: help please - i-pod digital music player thingy
He seems to be veering towards iPod. He is thinking of the 4th gen iPod 40GB as he`s seen one that a guy at his work has, and liked the look of it. He`s seen the free engraving but isn`t bothered. The U2 iPod looks very good, but he wants more than 20GB as we have 600+ CDs. Cheapest place appears to be Amazon, unless anyone knows any different? Our local Curry`s superstore is re-opening on Saturday after a refit, so we thought we might pop in and see if they have any special offers (I wouldn`t normally touch them with a barge pole, but you never know!)
I`m just jealous, as I`m the gadget freak in this house, and I won`t have one! (I only live 5 minutes walk from work, so don`t need one)
I want a new toy!

help please - i-pod digital music player thingy
Hello everybody
I know there have been previous posts on very similar issues, but my husband is looking for a digital music player thingy. He`s looked on-line at an i-pod and an i-river, but doesn`t really know much about them (nor do I, as I`m sure you can tell!). What he wants is a music player only, that he can load 600+ CDs onto to listen to. He`s unlikely to download tunes from the internet, and doesn`t need a radio. He`s gathered that both have dodgy ear-phones supplied, so is expecting to buy a new set/headphones. Battery life is not a major issue, as he will only be using it for a couple of hours each day. So what does he go for?
He does have a couple of specific questions:
1. When you download CDs, do the album names/track names get downloaded too, or do you have to type them in?
2. How long does it take?
3. Do you have to put the CDs onto your pc first, or can you transfer them direct to the digital music player thingy?
Thanks guys (sorry for such a long post)

RE: Wireless connection with Telewest Broadband
just shows how much I (don`t) know, eh?! To a dinosaur like me, I`d have thought setting up a new broadband connection via wireless thingies would be much the same as converting existing broadband connection to wireless.
Maybe it`s just because I don`t get to post very often (as I don`t really have much to offer), so I just got a bit carried away........

RE: free flights offer from Cd-wow
I`m of the view that it is worth a look - we were getting a couple of DVDs/CDs soon anyway, so all we`ve done is order them today, but as two separate orders. So when we get the details and find out what hotels are on offer/what the taxes are, we`ll be able to check out if it is good or not and if it is good, that is 2 breaks for next year sorted. (I found the comments you were referring to, and one person was comparing the prices to a 2* or B&B - the offer quotes 3* or 4* hotels. They may well be correct that it is over-priced, but surely it is better to compare like with like?)
Fingers crossed!

free flights offer from Cd-wow
cd-wow have an offer on for free flights to certain European destinations if you spend more than £18, you just have to pay the taxes and at least 3-nights accommodation - I don`t know if this is going to be as good as it sounds as I haven`t had the voucher and full details yet (though I`ve had the initial e-mail from cd-wow telling me I`ve qulaified for the offer).
terms and conditions available at cd-wow:

RE: Wireless connection with Telewest Broadband
I hate to sound smug or anything, but when I started my broadband with Telewest last year, I ordered the whole wireless kit from them. They then sent me a box with the bits I needed to plug into my pc and receiver, plus set-up cd and instructions. It cost me £25 I think (my brother was impressed with the netgear bits as he said it would cost more than that to buy them direct) and all seems to work reasonably OK (odd hiccup getting started, but they hadn`t activated my account properly, odd signal problem, but that has vastly improved since engineer came and upgraded connection in the street). I know Telewest are useless when you ring though, as wireless is self-set-up so deemed self-support.

RE: Can anyone reccommend a good quality (fleece?) jacket?
My husband also has a Berghaus - they are a good company. I`ve got a Jack Wolfskin one which I really like. You could also look at Rohan - very expensive, but very long lasting, excellent performance, good guarantee, will pack very small. Try Black as well, they can sometimes do good prices.
Have a great time - I`ve always fancied Amsterdam!

USA payg SIM
Hello everybody
I`m going to the states in a couple of days, and will be taking my phone (tri-band SL55). I`ve read posts before that recommend buying a payg sIM over there as the best option for making calls. Any receommendations/hints, or shall I just go into a phone shop there and trust them? (Going to Boston ann New Hampshire for New England in the fall - colour is just starting to turn - getting really excited now!)
Thanks everybody

SL55 reset help
Hello everybody, I hope someone can help. I`ve tried google-search but it didn`t get me anywhere......
I want to reset my SL55 to clear the T9 dictionary and other bits I think I might have messed up while playing with the phone (don`t ask!). I don`t need to unlock the phone (don`t even know if it is locked, got from O2 but no O2 logos on box). Can I do this? Do I need a data cable for this? I`m going to the states in a couple of days - would it pay to get a data cable there?
Thanks everybody

Pen shop in the USA. Really good, rollerballs, biros, fountain pens the lot, but also got some amazingly expensive stuff. (I`ve used them to get refills for my Sensa rollerball, a really cool pen with a squidgy bit where you hold it, as I can`t get refills in the UK anymore)
coupon code removed - please post T & Cs or link to the source of this offer

RE: Samsung V200 password problem - help!
Dusty,
I decided to search on Google, and eventually found this:
http://www.freewebs.com/gsmcodes/phonecodes.htm
I don`t know if your code didn`t work `cos I still had the SIM in the phone, I`ve never had to do this sort of thing before (if I change a password I remember what I`ve changed it to!) Anyway, rather than go back to this site and retry (too much effort?!), I used the codes listed without SIM in and they worked. Yippee!! Phone is fully reset and security password is 8 zeros again. (Husband is VERY relieved) Wouldn`t have been able to do it without your help though, as I wouldn`t have trusted the codes except they looked really similar to yours. :)

Samsung V200 security password problem - help!
The default password on this phone is supposed to be 8 zeros, but even though my husband and I do not remember him changing it, it doesn`t work (I would be surprised if he had changed it, as he is a bit of a techno-dinosaur). Any suggestions?

RE: Question Regarding Probate
My aunt died last year and had named me and my bother as executors (she probably hadn`t anticipated dying before my Dad). Anyway, although it can seem daunting it is in actual fact very easy. I acted as main executor (proving executor) while my bother `reserved his power` as he doesn`t live anywhere near me. From date of death to receiving the Grant of Probate it was two months and 11 days, so that proves it doesn`t have to take forever either. Helpful guidance on following links:

RE: Olic takes drugs = No Ban. Ferdanand doesn`t take drugs = 8 month ban.
Sorry Paull, I too disagree with your comparison of the Ferdinand and Olic cases. However, I believe that there have been genuine cases of drug taking which have not resulted in a two year ban (which it should be), so I can see where you`re coming from. You also have to bear in mind that Palios did state when appointed to the FA that he was going to crack down on the drugs issue (which would include the requirement to take a test when selected to do so).

RE: DFS sofas - any opinions?
Thanks guys!
I did go and have a look - I didn`t have a chance to look for replies to my post beforehand. Don`t worry, I`m not going to get it. The leather looked really cheap, and I did rather suspect that DFS sofas were crap - my viewing and your comments prove it. Back to the original plan - get a new sofa ourselves from the manuacturer up the road when we borrow money off the mortgage next year for home improvements (that list just keeps getting longer and longer)!

DFS sofas - any opinions?
This isn`t really a retailer review topic, as there is someone at work selling a leather DFS sofa that is only a year old (they`re moving to the States), and wondered if anybody had any thoughts on the quality of their sofas?
Thanks guys.

RE: Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I`m Gettting Married
Quote:
I think his leaving Kiss had more to do with the fact that he had a few alcohol and drug problems and growing tension within the band. He got divorced from his wife (who wasn`t called Beth but Lydia) in `79 before he left Kiss in 1980.
Oh well, never mind Rocky, duped again. At least I haven`t been suckered by Elvis Costello`s I want You, or The Police`s Every breath You Take - both a bit scary/stalker-ish. I`m not sure that people always listen too carefully to the lyric before choosing a song!

RE: Best place for kitchen appliances?
try going down your local specialist supplier, they can be surprisingly good. My Mum and Dad recently got a new cooker from Dixons/Currys/Comet (can`t remember which, all the same anyway) as it was the best price they found anywhere, and had no end of problems.......non-deliveries, no fitter etc etc. Our local specialist appliance shop did the same cooker for only about £20 more, and would have saved them loads of hassle. Ihave to admit, I don`t mind paying a bit more for good service, and with a local shop there;s someone to see if anything does go wrong.

RE: Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I`m Gettting Married
When we got married (New Year`s Eve 2001) we had a great party, with a live band (incidentally, the band apparantly played on Eastenders some time ago, when Andy bought Kat fish and chips in the park, they were the band playing in the bandstand. We missed it though!). The band actually played Brown Eyed Girl for me, but `our song` was The Carpenters Can`t Last a Day. I did think the words of On Top of the World were appropriate, but we would have had to do something like the birdie dance to it, and I would have fallen over laughing. Love Paul Weller too, but the lyrics of You Do Something to Me is a bit sad. How about the real Elvis classic Fools Rush In? Or if she is called Beth, how about Beth by Kiss? It`s a lovely ballad, and the drummer actually left the band to be with her `cos he couldn`t stand touring and being away from her. Ok, so maybe not the best choice lyrically as it`s very sad, but I love the story behind it!
