There`e plenty of bargains to be had. But be careful. Some of the online dealers won`t repair your E50 if it goes down during the first year. Others will repair but you`ll have to meet the cost of shipping back to them. Under their 1-year guarantee, Panasonic will uplift, repair and return to you without charge. But they won`t touch the MR version because they regard that as having been tampered with by the dealer thus invalidating their guarantee. So before you buy the MR version best find out from the dealer how they go about repairs under the guarantee.

I bought 10 DV372 Traxdata DVD-R discs from SVP following their recommendation of compatibility with my E50. Have used 3 so far; they work fine.

Anybody thinking of buying a Panasonic DMRE50 should check out www.techtronics.com. Cheapest prices I`ve seen for both MR and R2 versions. Even better, they`re offering their prices interest free over 6 months.

That`s a great price. But before I buy a DMRE50 advice, please, on the cheapest online source of DVDRAM discs.

What silly games Digital-point and PRC Direct are playing; each trying to beat the other by a few pence. The fact is PRC are not comparing like with like. They offer the Region 2 version at £307.96 while Digital-point are offering the Multi -Region version at £308, a much better bargain altogether and giving real value for money. To compete PRC will have to knock £40 off their MR version. Any bets on which of them will drop their price on the MR version below the magical £300 mark and sell the cheapest DMRE50 in the UK?

Re the DMRE50, is it possible (and straightforward) to do a DIY job in converting the Region 2 version to the MR one? If so, how to go about it? Or is saving around £30 not worth the hassle? Advice anybody, please.

Plan to treat myself to an e50 very soon. But before I do, a couple of questions. I know it has a Videoplus facility but does it also have a Programme Delivery Control-PDC-facility like the Phillips 880? And is the £30 extra you pay for an MR recorder worth the money?
