RE: PC-DVD ROM Hacks?
It all depends on what make of dvd drive it is and which windows operating system your running.
If your drive is region free like you say:
then windows 98/ME will work with DVD Genie
but it you are running Windows 2000/XP its a bit more complicated.
if you need any more help on this matter just post me.
Rog :)
RE: RCE re Wharfdale 750s
Yep the Wharfedale 750s does play RCE disks and you can even set it to multi-region playback, no need to just set it to region 1

RE: Richer Sounds
I bought my entire Home Cinema system from them last year (apart from my TV and DVD player).
The service was excellent.
No high-pressure sales.
I got to use the demo room to decide what I wanted.
Plus the neat thing with the extended warranty if when it runs out, you haven’t made a claim on it, you get the price of the warranty back.
100% service, I cannot fault them.

The Art Of War (with my Wharfedale 750S)
Hi
Just purchased a Region 1 copy of “THE ART OF WAR” – starring Wesley Snipes.
Played it on my Wharfedale 750S and it played perfectly until it froze near the end of chapter 9.
I then fiddled about with the remote and the disc and I managed to get it working (and saw the rest of the film),
but I haven’t a clue how I got it too play and every time the disc is re-inserted into the player the same thing happens.
If I try to select a chapter above chapter 9 from the scene selection menu it freezes.
Further investigation of the disc shows that although this is suppose to be a Region 1 disc, I reset my player to factory default and inserted the disc and guess what? It played !!!
I find this strange as it should not play on a Region 2 player. Should it ?
I was also curious about the sleeve of the DVD box, on all the covers I have seen advertising this film, the front cover had a black background and I think it is released by Warner Home Video, but the disc I got has a white background and is released by Columbia Tristar Home Video and has no region classification symbol on the cove or the disc, anybody know why ?
Has anybody got a clue to what’s going on ??
or is it just my player having bother with the second half of the disc.
I would appreciate any help on this matter as it’s driving me NUTS !!!
RE: Wharfedale 750s Remote Hacks
Hi Caster
Unfortunately your Wharfedale 750 appears to be one of the early models that will not play The Patriot,
And I’m afraid the hack with the direction buttons and A-B method or the manual hack 1,1,1,1,1 will not work on your machine because these hacks are for the new Wharfedale 750S
Fear NOT.
There is a newer firmware chip available from www.dvdchips.co.uk that will fix The Patriot problem,
Or,
You could try what I did and that was to take my player back to Tosco’s (as it is still under warranty) and say I was having problems with it and asked if they could give me a replacement model.
I even managed to walk out the store with a new Wharfedale 750S and my copy of The Patriot plays fine...
Hope this is of some help.
Regards
RE: Difference between 750s and 750 ??
Hi Jack
If your taking about the original Wharfedale 750.
They are all pretty much the same inside apart from their firmware chips.
Their are apparently 3 versions of it, the early version which cant play RCE disks and had trouble with The Matrix had a CS=5EE8 firmware.
The second version has the DTS support and has the CS=CBE8 firmware which apparently can play RCE disks.
And the third version has the DTS support and the new firmware CS=328C which can also play RCE disks.
Hope you find this useful.
RE: Difference between 750s and 750 ??
Hi Jack
Yes the 750S’s DO say 750S on the box.
The remote control of the 750S is different to the 750. (It’s a lot better!!)
Your 3rd question seems strange. If you are asking, “Do the late 750’s play The Patriot” then you’ve already answered that by saying your mate’s works.
If your asking “Do the late 750S’s play The Patriot” then YES all the 750S’s play The Patriot.
As for the MP3’s I’m not sure, I don’t have any CD’s with MP3 files on to try, but as far as I’m aware they do.
I hope this has been some help.

RE: What is macrovision ? - Wharfedale 750
According to several people in this forum and others, there is no known way of disabling the macrovision of the Wharfedale 750 or 750s manually.
The only way apparently to disable the macrovision is by opening up your player (which will invalidate your warranty) and then by soldering a small circuit board to certain pins on the chip.
This Macro Mod is available from www.dvdchips.co.uk
If anybody does know of a way to disable the macrovision easily, then please let everyone know.
I’m sure a lot of people out there would want to know about it.
RE: Latest 750S (newest firmware) plays the PATRIOT in REGION FREE mode
Well after many hours trying to decide what to do,
I took a gamble the other day and I took my early model Wharfedale 750 back to Tescos as it was still under warranty and told them I was having problems with it.
I asked them if I could have a replacement and if possible could it be the new model 750s.
The assistant then told me I could have the new model but that the only difference between the two was the remote control “It works the volume on your TV” she said.
How little they know, and guess what?
It doesn’t even adjust the volume on you TV at all, it adjusts the sound output level on the player itself.
So anyway I took my new Wharfedale 750s straight home and tried The Patriot and YES my new player also works exactly in the same way as yours, PERFECTLY.
HURAY!!!!
RE: wharfdale 750- The Patriot will not play!!
Hi Chris400
Did your Wharfedale 750 come with the CBE8 firmware or have you had the chip upgraded ?
According to several reports in this forum and others the CBE8 should play The Patriot.
To answer you question about "Would the screen flash region free if the hack was correct?" No. The 750 model does not display a message.
I hope someone would be able to help with this problem as I too can not at present play The Patriot.
