RE: PANASONIC SA-PT450

Hi there,

I have a the same machine - SC-PT 450 - (part of a home cinema set-up). I just bought a chipped remote on EBAY. It worked perfectly (but you can only use it once). Here`s the link:

http://www.d*******.co.uk/

The EBAY price was £14.99 plus £1.00 postage. It arrived within 24 hours.

Check his feedback on EBAY (d*******). Many satisfied customers.

CIS Motor insurance - rip-off cancellation charge ??

I`ve just cancelled my policy with CIS Motor Insurance. They had been okay with their premiums since 2004. In February of this year, when I renewed, I had a letter saying they could no longer just allow `any driver` to be included. So to include my 18 year old son as a named driver, the premium went up to £106 per month - fair enough, I thought.

Now my son has got his own car, I gave them the opportunity to quote for a new policy, but they were totally uncompetitive - in excess of £3000. (I`ve since found a much better deal).

So I rang to cancel my current policy, as I also found a better deal for my wife and me. I expected a cancellation / amendment charge of between £12.50 and £20, according to the literature I had (which wasn`t clear). I even thought I may get a refund of the balance of the month I had already paid for.

A letter arrived this morning with a demand for £159.73 !!

Needless to say, I rang and complained and was given a long-winded explanation of how the charge was calculated. The guy also said I would have received these details when I renewed, but I `m certain I didn`t. I have a booklet with lots of `small print` but I can`t find any reference to the calculation of `their` cancellation charges.

I told him I had just cancelled my direct debit, but he told me I could send a cheque !!

Are they just trying it on because I cancelled? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Recommendations for cheap CAR insurance for 18-year old male ???

I`ve spent the afternoon ringing round for car insurance for my son (18 years old).
He has a `pass plus` certificate (from December 2006). He passed his test in September 2006. No convictions, fines, etc.

Best price was around £1800. The Internet came up with a couple of quotes less than £1000, but when you look into them, the price suddenly shoots up.

`ADMIRAL GROUP` (recommended in a book as `BEST FOR YOUNG DRIVERS`) couldn`t even quote for us, even though the guy told me he had already insured THREE 18-year olds the same day !!

Car was going to be a 1.4 Renault Clio Sport. Even a less powerful car seems to make little difference.

We are looking at a V/W/X registered small hatchback (Corsa / Renault, etc) and Fully Comprehensive cover.

We live in the HX6 postcode area (not a burnt out car in sight!!)

Any suggestions would be welcome.

RE: CD Wow really slow service

I place an order on July 2nd for a CD and it`s still `pending dispatch`.

When I e-mailed them the other day to ask about the delay, I received this reply:

Hi,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for the delay in dispatching this
item.

Unfortunately, we have experienced delay in receiving this item from our
suppliers and we are currently awaiting confirmation of when the goods will
be available for dispatch.

As soon as we have this information, we will let you know by email.

Once again, sorry for the inconvenience caused to you by this delay, and
thank you very much for your patience - it is sincerely appreciated.

If you require any further assistance at this time then please do not
hesitate to get back to me.

Kind Regards

Jennifer
CD WOW! Custumer Services

(A Beautiful South CD)

They`ve been so reliable in the past and the vouchers are always a bonus.

My daughter placed an order two weeks before me and she`s still waitng as well.

RE: 4cheapcds.com

I found a CD I wanted on their site. I ordered it and got confirmation of payment, and a day later, confirmation of shipping. All done and dusted inside a week.

I`d use them again. They have a small selection of CDs on special offer. I got the Norah Jones latest for £4.99.

Also, it came in a cardboard box (NOT a padded envelope).

SKY PIN CODE - 5.00 pm movies?

Does anyone know how to find your pin-code in order to watch the `15` rated movies that start at 5.00 pm.

The guide that SKY shows isn`t exactly helpful, when it says `JUST ENTER YOUR PIN CODE !!

I tried the last four numbers on my viewing card but that didn`t work.

I have a full subscription to SKY, but not SKY+

Thanks!!

RE: HMV 20% off this Friday and Saturday (20/21 Oct 2006) online only

I got:

Series 1 of LIFE ON MARS for £14.39.

Went back later to order something else and realised you could only use it ONCE !!

Already had confirmation of shipping!!

RE: £5 discount at cd wow

I received mine last Thursday. Ordered R1 Flightplan (£4.99 with voucher).

Also got a voucher for my mate - but he deleted it (thinking it expired last Thursday) !!

More reductions at MVC

MVC (HUDDERSFIELD) have reduced their yellow-stickered items even further.

They had the AVIATOR 2-disc DVD set at £5.99 - with Buy One Get One free as well !!

At just under £3.00 - that`s a real bargain. Loads of copies in stock as well. Also there was Spiderman 2 (same price).

2-disc copy of MAN ON FIRE @ £7.99 (but half the marked price).

Can`t remember all the titles, but quite a few which worked out at under a fiver each

The girl was stocking up the shelves as I left at closing time (Thursday)

24 box-set for £5.99 - but VHS !!

MUSIC ZONE in Manchester had series 1 & 2 of `24` VHS box sets for £5.99 each on Monday.

Seems a great deal if you still buy videos !! :)

Region Code Enhanced DVDs (RCE) Can anyone help?

I have a Toshiba SD 210EB DVD player (3 years old). It`s multi-regional (came from Richer Sounds) and plays R1 DVDs without problems. However, I`ve noticed that some R1 sites issue warnings like the one below with some of their titles:

Please Note: Regional Coding Enhancement (RCE): has been added to certain Region 1 DVD`s. RCE will prevent the DVD from playing on some "Multi-Region" DVD players.

Any idea if this is a major problem or is it just to put people off??.

RE: Argos Spiderman 2 Dvd £7.49

I got a copy at the Huddersfield Argos store (town centre) on Monday evening. They still had 18 in stock (2-disc set). Thanks to speedyman for original posting.

RE: Ripping Yarns

They had loads at £12.99 in the Manchester Virgin store just after Christmas. It`s a smaller Virgin shop now that the Market Street Megastore has closed down.

RE: EBUYER.what an absolute joke in customer service

I used them just over a week ago - two laptop carrying cases and two optical mice. I got the stuff within three to four days and an e-mail confirming dispatch.

I`d use them again.

RE: Please recommend a Region 1 supplier!

This IS the Retailer Reviews forum (I think !!)

I`ve used www.movietyme.com for Region ONE DVDs.

Thet have a good bargain list to browse through.

The Fog SE - £6.99 -
To Live And Die In LA (SE) - £6.99
21 Grams - £6.99

Price includes delivery but you can pay extra for a `strong box`

They also take PAYPAL payments (plus a slight supplement)
e.g. £6.99 becomes £7.12. Worth checking out their site

Frist order from BLAH

:) I ordered an ABBA CD/DVD a couple of weeks ago from BLAH. Out of stock initially, but it arrived in just over a week (I also used a £2.00 discount voucher that I had received from them).

RE: thehut.com

I received FLEETWOOD MAC - LIVE IN BOSTON - 2-DVD and 1 CD set from THE HUT.COM. COST: £13.89 delivered.

I`d never used them before and I ordered this on Thurday 9th. I rang them first to check the this item was actually in stock. The girl said she`s check and ring me back in ten minutes. She rang back in five and told me to go ahead and place an order online.

Item arrived on the 17th :). Seems a bargain. Cheapest price on comaprison sites was £18.25. In-store at HMV (Huddersfield) it`s £27.99 !!

Impressed with customer service - I may try them again. :) :)

RE: Has anyone used Sound & Vision? are they reliable??

I used them in April 2002. I spotted their ad in WHAT TV (or some similar magazine). They are only 25 miles from where I live so I was able to drive across. They have a smallish shop and demonstration area in Farnworth (just outside Bolton).

They were very helpful with advice and I bought a Panasonic 28" flatscreen and a Toshiba video. TOTAL was £699 (two and a half years ago that was a good price !!). I returned the next day and thay loaded the items into the back of my car, as delivery would have cost extra.

A month later I had to return the video as the controls were going crazy. Playing when I pressed eject, Rewinding when I pressed fast-forward, etc !! No problem - they gave me an upgrade for an extra £15.

No trouble since then but I haven`t been back.

Don`t spend too long in the `town` of Farnworth, though. Flat caps, ferrets and greasy spoon cafes and it rains a lot !!

FLEETWOOD MAC DVD Bargain at THEHUT.COM

I just received FLEETWOOD MAC - LIVE IN BOSTON - 2-DVD and 1 CD set from THE HUT.COM. COST: £13.89 delivered.

I`d never used them before and I ordered this on Thurday 9th. I rang them first to check the this item was actually in stock. The girl said she`s check and ring me back in ten minutes. She rang back in five and told me to go ahead and place an order online.

Item arrived today (17th). Seems a bargain. Cheapest price on comaprison sites was £18.25. In-store at HMV (Huddersfield) it`s £27.99 !!

Impressed with customer service - I may try them again.

RE: Definitive guide to the BEST Online Retailers

1) PLAY.COM - I`ve used them for nearly three years and they`ve never let me down.

Fast delivery, although bubble-lined envelopes for some cardboard box-sets don`t give enough protection. Sometimes they use `wraparound` card packaging which is better

2) CD-WOW - Great prices and a fast service both for CDs and DVDs

I`ve also used MVC about three times lately (for CDs). Although prices are not particularly competitive, I`ve received goods within 24 - 48 hours

I`g like to know about THEHUT.COM . They are offering FLEETWOOD MAC - LIVE IN BOSTON (2 DVD + CD) for £13.89 - several pounds cheaper than anyone else !!

Spiderman 2-disc set for £5.97 at ASDA & some bargains at BLOCKBUSTER

I called at ASDA (Halifax) and picked up SPIDERMAN (2 -disc set) for £5.97. They had about six or seven other titles at the same price;

EVOLUTION
CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON
THIRTEEN GHOSTS
Can`t remember the others !!

At BLOCKBUSTER they have lots of older MGM titles for £3.99 each.

BEST SELLER
THE BIG COUNTRY
FX1
FX2.

Also TOMB RAIDER at £4.99

RE: WH Smiths Half Price Sale

I picked up CHICAGO for £6.49 (Halifax store). Didn`t bother with anything else, though.

RE: Deer Hunter 2 Disk Edition £4.99 at Woolies

No - it was a present from a friend. Although it was sealed, it didn`t have an insert.

DAVID

RE: Deer Hunter 2 Disk Edition £4.99 at Woolies

I got mine from Woolies in Huddersfield and there was NO insert.
Also got the Pianist (a gift) - that was sealed up and had no insert either.
