More 4 top titles

Watched the "flyer" on freeview channel 13 - new West Wing (why not E4) and some great titles.

Bernard Hill as David Blunket looks funny, and how quick were they to get "Downfall" - only just out on DVD.

RE: Hammers Go Top!!

The only way from here is UP

just hope Teddy Sheringham is not too "miffed" being sub`d

RE: Philips DVDR610 and 8x Speed Discs

Only issue I`ve had with discs were some from Jessops - white on top, think they were Infiniti. Lost a few Six Nations matches when they wouldn`t finalise.

Only problem I have with my 610 is occasional lock ups when press record - happened last night when I tried to record Miami Vice on Men and Motors. Disc was not lost fortunately.

Now coming up to a year old. Looking at the Sony 510 DVD with HD as a replacement though - seen for £300 online, records dual media (16 hours on a DVD+R) and recommended in the latest magazine.

RE: Philips DVDR610 and 8x Speed Discs

Records and Plays Tesco and Imation 8x fine

RE: Portable DVD Player

Venturer at £89 at Argos - buy before end 29 July and get a £10 voucher (so long as you`ve spent £100). Voucher will be valid with new catalogue I think which is due out.

RE: Dvd recorder with divx play back at under £100

No RGB in seems to be the downside on this machine.

Still interesting at Asda - local in Basildon had 3 for £99 ea including the Dual and the 4KUS.

However worth noting that the Panasonic E55 is being heavily discounted at places like Dixons and can be seen for under £150. No doubt it will be had for £129 - and that`ll be me happy with a second recorder.

RE: After the Philips DVDR610: VHS is NOT dead!

In defence of my £99 Philips 610 the only discs I had problems with were some from Jessops but it works well with the 8 speed ones from Tesco, as well as Verbatim, Infiniti etc..

However my sister has a Panasonic with HD which she`s using for copying off some recorded progs (Dr Who) to disc. And with fast copy speeds, it`s a marvel. However as someone who has more than 1 recorder, at £99 the Philips filled a spot

RE: £10 off £50 ASDA groceries shop - first order only

I know they post CDs and DVDs free but haven`t tried to see if it works in the offer

RE: Help on LG DR4912 for £150 at John Lewis

1. Power on
2. Open DVD tray
3. Press 7 times 0 on the remote control
4. You will see a "Now zonefree" confirmation message on the screen

There are various bits and pieces you can get from

www.videohelp.com

Hacks, DVD compatibility with discs etc

RE: Import VAT + Royal Mail Fee = ROBBING BASTARDS!!!

Just to support the Post Office, they did give me refunds on DVD Soon items which had the price pre-discount. Customs and the Post Office saw the vouchers and gave me my money back.

RE: ASDA Deals

I got a Asda £10 voucher on email - need to spend £50. Be interested to see if you can buy electricals. If so £70 becomes £60 but I don`t know what they do for delivery. CDs and DVDs are delivered free so fingers crossed.

RE:

Ordered the recent TV version and need to watch it - region 1 of course.

RE: Spam emails every 15 minutes blocking my email

Thanks, didn`t see that option first time round. First time had an issue with tiscali

Spam emails every 15 minutes blocking my email

I`m getting an email off someone every 15 minutes. Same message each time

I first blocked sender, so the email went to my deleted box.

Then I set the rule so the email would not be downloaded from the server.

Now I`ve got a mailbox full message - I assume this is because the messages are sitting in an "account". Any advice on how to stop this properly?

Thanks

RE: Help on LG DR4912 for £150 at John Lewis

Thanks for the info guys. LG are quite good giving the manuals on their website.

Only issue I had with LG was that I had a LG3200E player 4 years ago which had problems with some discs (Ultimate Toy Story) but have sites say that LG components can be found in Sony machines.

Anyway prices are falling. Did consider the Cyberhome at £100 at Asda but have a player from WH Smith (the 400) which I read as having a faulty board which they never recalled. So that made me rule them out. I know if I wait a few months the Panasonic will have come down to £170 ish (the E55 is doing the rounds in a few local shops at this price now as they try to get rid).

RE: Amazon Summer Sale!

Don`t forget cheap albums too (Keane for under £6) and games (e.g. some "good" XBox titles for around £5, and Bard`s Tale for £10). Even if the £5 games are no good, can`t be long before trade-ins can happen at MVC or Game (essentially top title for £20).

Help on LG DR4912 for £150 at John Lewis

As stated, I`ve seen this at the price, with +/- recording ability

It`s MR able according to the hack site I use.

Do owners rate the machine, does it play discs well, and are its recordings reasonable at lower levels?

Advice please, as it offers good features, and price seems very good.

RE: Lidl - Portable Satellite Receiver £ 69.99 Mon 23/5

I got one of these last year. You can set it up with the clamp or inside the carry case.

The satellite finder is a simple compass - there may still be a few references to this on the web.

Anyway, be these early. Last year I think the store had a few in when I went, but the first 6 people, all in front of me, wanted 1. So I`d be prepared to be there at 9am - lunchtime and you`ll probably have missed it.

Also, the dish does fit inside the case, so be prepared to either live in the south, where you can get buy, or travel south. Of course if you have a proper satellite dish and wish to replace a Sky box, it`ll do that fine.

And you get a 3 year gtee for piece of mind.

RE: Battlestar Galactica

Any news on region 1 DVD release yet?

Also for Miami Vice fans, they a nice blue t-shirt in TJ Hughes for £8 - couldn`t resist getting one meself!!

Mutant X Season 2 well under £15 at DVD Soon reg 1

Just out in Canada as a complete series - decided to plump for it to complete my first season set.

Any Hercules fans out - season 1 and the films are under £10 there too. About £1 a disc...Currently a top five seller for the Canadians!

RE: Free Shipping is back at DVD Soon.

Shipping is usually 7 days for me - and enjoy all my titles. Have an i Card so have a bit more - where else can you get the Kaiser Chiefs CD and the new Nine Inch Nails CD/DVD flipper for around £11. I understand the free offer applies to DvD movies only - and it`s pretty hard to find the CDs.

Got my first sales "email" today from them - took some time. Still, I got Quantum Leap season 3 today (3 flip discs) which cost me around £15. Ran out of things to order at the moment - just waiting for Moonlighting season1/2 at the end of the month, season 2 of MacGyver to arrive mid June (that cost me under £12). Last thing I`ve preordered was the sixth season of Hercules (again, well under £18) and I suppose I`ll opt for Lois and Clark, Remington Steele and Wonder Woman season 3 when I`ve rested my credit card (and the postie).

Bush Nicam VCR/DVD Combi (model DVHS1) for £69.99 at the Co-op

Saw a whole bundle of these at Co-op Welling so I assume they may be widespread.

Conflicting stories about whether they hack (some codes do but it may be the date of manufacture).

Checking compat. they seem to do -R and +R and +RW.

Seems to be a toss up between this and the Alba at Argos - I know they are probably the same but Bush seems to have the edge.

I would have gone for a Toshiba but they don`t handle + discs.

TopUp TV new offer

£11.99 for a year - essentially get the £7.99 subscription and the box (they supply) is yours. £48 for the box - don`t know which one though.

Their email to me said the following:
To find out more about this exclusive new payment option, call us now on 08700 543210 quoting 'REG2'. We hope we'll be welcoming you on to the service soon.

RE: Anybody here use Blah! DVD?

Got the £5 voucher for £30 bargains (and 3 titles) but they put Spooks season 2 up now. Some bargains there though to be had...

RE: The Matsui DVDR100

Re picture, try simply taking the scart out of the recorder and all sources (TV, digiboxes) and reinsert. Don`t push it too hard in. I`m presuming you have an ordinary scart lead - not a Dixons one for £30 nor a freeby with the machine.

Worked on mine.

And why a cheap box - good as a reserve player/recorder, multiregion etc etc. And how many of us had more than 1 VCR and who bought the JVC SVHS machines. Exactly.

My Philips is wonderful (now) but as a DVD player the menu structure is quite poor!!

RE: The Matsui DVDR100

White teeth and lines - I had a white line in the bottom of the screen with a Phil 610 DVD recorder, slight adjustment of the scart cable and it was fine. Maybe that simple.

Glad Matsui is working well, does it do 4X and 8X discs? Reason I ask is I had a Currys own brand and the firmware was set up to 2.4X so I took it back. Just invested heavily in Tesco 8x jobs without complaint.

Also, been watching the Alba at £99 in Argos. Waiting to see a review for this. Pity Argos can`t consistently put out in literature whether it has 1 scart or 2 - what hope for the rest of us.

RE: Ultimate Force ITS BACK

And clashes with CSI NY - boo hiss.

They could have marketed the series on DVD with - not seen on TV - but they`ve missed the chance now.

RE: Is GAME still doing 4 games + 99p for a new title?

MVC do sometimes do swaps of 4 games for a title - does anyone know if you had 4 PS2 games, you could get an X Box title? Game allow swapping for any version, so hopefully they do. Anyone advise? Only saves me 99p but sometimes the chart titles vary between the retailers.

RE: Battle Of The Planets (Animated) (Complete Box Set) (Twelve Discs) 29.99 delivered

There are quite a few Gatchaman sites out there, and occasionally DvDs from Hong Kong for around £20 a season - depending on bidding.

English subtitles on the versions, usually 3-4 discs per 35 episode season. Be careful as some versions exist, like 1-30,31-70 and 71-105 and another split for 35 episodes so be careful. It is playable as region 0 in my epxerience.

Having watched many of the episodes, I can thoroughly recommend Gatchaman, there are occasionally light issues with the recording (i.e. it does get dark), but the storylines and action make it poles apart from BOTP. Just get used to the names, like the Demon Gang and Bert Kalse (aka Zoltar).

There is Gatchaman 2 in existence, but no English translation apparently.

And for those who want to watch it as a movie, the 90s remake Gatchaman OVA. Available in region 1 from usual stockists - 3 parts telling the whole story. Again, as Mike Read would say ter-rifffff-ic
