Help on LG DR4912 for £150 at John Lewis
As stated, I`ve seen this at the price, with +/- recording ability
It`s MR able according to the hack site I use.
Do owners rate the machine, does it play discs well, and are its recordings reasonable at lower levels?
Advice please, as it offers good features, and price seems very good.

I bought one of these just before Christmas for £159.99 inc P&P. It was extremely good value and probably the best looking DVD recorder you can buy at any price. I`ve seen lots of sites selling these for anything up to £330+!
Anyway, recording quality is very good, there are 4 modes giving aprox 60min,120min,240min and 360min depending on quality chosen. The first two (called HQ and SQ) are virtually indestinguishable from the original source. The third (LQ) is perfectly watchable and I think is comparable to a very good VHS (maybe S-VHS). The lowest quality (EQ) is again watchable but is clearly lower quality, giving a grainyness and slightly pixelated look especially with fast moving images. This is probably comparable to normal VHS although it`s difficult to compare. Any DVD recorder at any price will be similar as the quality is determined by the bitrate required to fit it onto a DVD. Sound is good in any mode. I too have heard that it can be easily turned to multi-region but I`ve never tried. All in all I am very happy with it and at £150, you can`t go wrong. :)

RE: Help on LG DR4912 for £150 at John Lewis
According to the LG web page at the below address, it is muti format ( -R/RW, +R/RW )
It says nothing about RAM.
The somewhat limited listing of it`s Spec. is
Optical out No
Component out No
Scart Yes
Progressive Scan Yes
Playback format
DVD ± R/RW Yes
WMA No
DVD Audio No
DviX No
I think you could do better at the price.

Thanks for the info guys. LG are quite good giving the manuals on their website.
Only issue I had with LG was that I had a LG3200E player 4 years ago which had problems with some discs (Ultimate Toy Story) but have sites say that LG components can be found in Sony machines.
Anyway prices are falling. Did consider the Cyberhome at £100 at Asda but have a player from WH Smith (the 400) which I read as having a faulty board which they never recalled. So that made me rule them out. I know if I wait a few months the Panasonic will have come down to £170 ish (the E55 is doing the rounds in a few local shops at this price now as they try to get rid).
RE: Help on LG DR4912 for £150 at John Lewis
The LG DR4912 won`t record onto DVD RAM, only DVD +/- R/RW. I too thought about a Panasonic DRM-E55 when I bought the LG, the thing that swung it was the multi-standard (and the looks). I couldn`t be sure if + or - discs would become the standard so went for the LG. Since using the different discs, I`m of the opinion the + ones will be the future as I`ve found them to be far better. DVD-R are crap, DVD-RW are only good if recorded in VR mode which makes them incompatible with other players (maybe not ALL). DVD+R/RW are a great all-rounder. If I remember correctly, the Panasonic ones are only DVD RAM and DVD-R/RW. Remember; you wouldn`t have wanted to get stuck with a betamax would you?

Me again.....It seams the LG website doesn`t know it`s own products.
The DR4912 does have an optical out AND component out. Amongst other things.
