RE: Silvercrest DVD player KH 6510/11

I bought a 6510 last December it was ok for the first few months then I noticed that on some dvds (particullarly on the last items on the disc or towards the end of a film) it would stutter, freeze and become jerky. This gradually became worse over the next few months until it got to a point where nearly every disc (dvd & divx discs) would come up as "bad disc" when inserted into the machine and the ones that did read in would start to freeze once you started to play them. At this point I noticed that Lidl were selling the silvercrest 6506 dvd player for the same price (the differnce between the two is the 6506 does not have the usb port and the vga output on it) ,so I returned the 6510 and exchanged it for a 6506 (just showed the cashier my 6510 reciept & said it was faulty and she agreed to the exchange) . So far the replacement 6506 player has worked ok (the only problem I have had so far is a small number of divx`s wont play on the machine (but I think this is down to software in the machine or badly coded divx files rather than a faulty machine)

RE: Babylon 5 series 1 for £15.00

just got my babylon 5 series 1 cancelled the email said
"We have received a report that the the above title is out of print and no longer available.
We have therefore had to cancel the order as we will not be able to fulfil the order for this title."

think wh smith should not accept a order if they havn`t got any stock (the item was still showing on the website the day after I ordered it) seem to be as bad as Tesco for accepting orders for dvds they havn`t got. Will not be ordering stuff from Wh Smith website again.

RE: WTF? Reviewer browser Hi-Jack?

hi in reply to the editor I cant be sure that the virus was a direct result of visting the website and it very much doubt it was . My copy of AVG just said something was dowloading/accessing my PC whilst I was browsing the dvd reviewer forums. Over the last week or two I`ve had a pop up say "You have won a prize" pop up whilst I have been browsing the forums which I have tried to close down as quickly as I can. Then on Saturday night I was browsing the forums when my anti virus popped up twice saying there was something trying to download and did I want to dowload it which I said no to . I then disconnected off the internet and did a virus scan the results came up as downloader.apropo.p had installed onto thee root of the C: drive and downloader.lalus.A had installed onto my desktop. I then healed using AVG and checked my system using spybot. After cleaning my system I put the cookiees onto promt before accepting and found a cookie from as1.falkag.de was trying to access my system whilst I was on this site. I have now installed zone alarm which hopefully will protect me from any viruses.

RE: WTF? Reviewer browser Hi-Jack?

whilst I was browsing dvd reviwer last night at about 23.30 a virus installed onto my pc & dowloaded some files to my desktop. I had AVG installed and it picked up the virus dowloading

RE: 7dayshop customs charge

I assume the £8.25 charge would be made up of £4.37 (VAT at 17.5%) with the rest being the amount the post office charge for collecting the fee (unless customs charge some other duty on it). Had a quick look at the customs site and like you I could not find any answer (to be honest the site seems to be aimed at buisnesses and seems a bit of a mess). Did look at royal mails website ( www.royalmail.com) as well but cant find any kind of definate answers here either. did find this which may indicate that the post office charge a flat fee for all parcels under a certain amount

Parcelforce Worldwide clearance

If we receive a parcel from overseas for import customers, we will pay any Customs duties and taxes on their behalf to HMCE. However, we will require payment for this, together with our Customs clearance fee, before the parcel can be delivered to them. Parcelforce Worldwide charges a Customs clearance fee which helps cover the cost of additional handling, administration, collection of monies and provision of facilities for Customs clearance of packages.

We have two levels of clearance fee for import parcels. There is a charge of £13.50 for high value parcels (over €1,000), express items through the EMS network (i.e. International Datapost equivalent) selected for additional customs inspection and GLS parcels (i.e. Euro 48 equivalent). For all other parcels, an £8 charge will apply.

These clearance charges are only applied if a duty or tax is payable on the parcel.

We will also make a charge if we have to hold your parcel whilst Customs process it, so we would recommend that you respond promptly to any Customs queries to avoid these charges. We will not levy a fee for the first 10 days, after 10 days however, storage fees will be charged. For more than 10 and up to 20 working days, - £5.50 per parcel. For each subsequent working day over 20 working days - £1.35 per parcel. All parcels valued at over €1,000 are placed in secure storage until completion of Customs formalities.

For more information about these fees, please contact a customer service advisor on 08708 50 11 50.

RE: 7dayshop customs charge

had a look on dabbs you had a good deal on the sd card . On the xd cards they are a little bit cheeper than 7 days shop (on 128MB xd cards) but I will now probably order from svp (blankdiscshop.co.uk) which have it for about 50p more than dabbs but as I`m going to be ordering from svp soon anyway the cost of the postage wont cost anymore (dabbs would be about £2) . I was in two minds about ordering a 128MB xd card from 7 day shop again just in case I got stung with a customs charge

RE: 7dayshop customs charge

just checked the 7 day shop website and everything over £18 includes UK VAT (as of 5PM today). Was looking at a 128MB xd card ,have now noticed that it has gone up by about £5 to include the VAT

RE: goodmans dvd 2100b

found this posted on the dvdrhelp.com site (dont know whether it works or not)

"I have found a way of playing region 1 DVDs on my Goodmans 2100B. Switch on the player and open the drawer, insert R1 disc, close drawer, while the player is loading the disc get your finger jabbing at the number 1 key on the remote,The disc starts playing but you then have an annoying "WRONG REGION" message in the top left hand corner of the screen, this you can get rid of by pressing the P/N button on your remote, you are left with a small white button type thing in the right hand corner but at least you can watch your region 1 DVDs2"

the link to the thread mentioning this is

http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdhacks.php?select=Goodmans+DVD+2100B

it may be the same as a proline 2100 according to this site

http://www.xs4all.nl/~wijnands/proline/

RE: goodmans dvd 2100b

some oz dvds are dual coded (even if just says region 4 on the case) to region 2 (uk & europe) and region 4 (australia) so you may find that some or all of them work in your dvd player without making the dvd player multi region.
