Installing a DVDR

Help required please. I have a new Dell PC which I purchased with a CDR. I have now bought a Toshiba DVD rewriter and can`t seem to get it to work. I have connected it up as a straight box swap for the cdr and windows has recognised it as a new device and seems to have done its thing.
I am now trying to use it and it reads cd`s and dvds fine, it copies to cd fine but will not write to dvd. I am using clonedvd and the first half of the process is fine (writing to pc) but as soon as it comes to write it just seems to hang on 0% until it eventually times out. The disc is then unusable/unreadable. Tried quite a few different types of branded media (+/- r/rw)
I have also tried Nero with similiar effect.

If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them.

Cheers

RE: Pioneer DVR420H DVD Recorder

I have just order the pioneer. Can anyone recommend a DVDR that works well with this machine (pref cheap) .

Had to buy from Dixons in the end. They are currently on sale (online) for £324 including delivery but if you can make up the order to £350 you can use the voucher code cantbarsed35350 for a £35 discount (if anyone else is looking for one and has ran out of patients with Richer Sounds)

Pioneer DVR420H DVD Recorder

I am considering buying one of these from Richer Sounds for £300. I would like a hard drive and a resonable quality of playback from retail DVDs as it will be my main player.

I would really appreciate any comments about this model or any alternative machines anyone can recomend. (£300 is about as much as I would like to spend)
Thanks

RE: PC Spec for a DVD Burner

Thanks for the advise. I think i`ll try upgrading my current pc and if it proves too slow or I decide I would like to do some editing then i can always reuse the hard drive and the re-writer in a new build.

Pc spec for DVD burner

I have a 533 celeron processor. Is this up to the job of dvd burning?

I am looking at adding 256 ram to help.

Any advise is much appreciated

Cheers Si

RE: What DVD recorder?

Curry website has an online offer for the Panasonic DRE55EBS of £207+del. If your local Richer sounds is anything like mine you will have to wait outside on dealivery day if you want to get your hands on one of there special deals >:( .

RE: Compacks 101 DVD Recorder - Unable to use dvd+r

Spoke to the compacks helpdesk who assure me that Phillips and TDK DVD+R will work. I`ll buy a couple and give them a go and post the results but if anyone else has had succes or not with this media then please let me know (before I waste more cash!). Also if anyone has any recomendations please let me know.

Cheers

Compacks 101 DVD Recorder - Unable to use dvd+r

Bought a compacks yesterday. Set up was fine and records onto dvd+rw no problems. Try to use a dvd+r and it records for between 10 sec and a minute and it crashes. Turns itself off and the disc is toast. Tried with about 4 cheap disc and a couple of branded memorex ones all the same result. Went back to W and swopped it for a different one today but with the same result. Is there a brand that works with this recorder? +rw is fine for tv recording but i also want to backup vhs stuff that i will want to play in a normal player. Any idea?

If not it will be going back and I will be looking for another machine. Any recomendations. Was looking at the philips 70 for £180.

Thanks in advance
