RE: LG 44" dlp tv-£1499 at currys

Yes I agree - I think the Hitachi / Pioneer are in a different league with regards to quality vs price. I would really like to get the quality of these units for the price you are willing to pay, but I believe we are 6 months off some of these units hitting that price point. The last 12 months have seen quite spectacular price drops and in 2005 and shop arround and you can get a Goodmans 42" for less than £1k.

I am sold on the Hitachi so will cruise www.dealtime.co.uk and www.kelkoo.co.uk until the price hits the £1500 mark.

RE: LG 44" dlp tv-£1499 at currys

In the latest `Digital Home` magazine the winner of the "Top 10 Plasma`s in the UK" was the Hitachi Platara 42PD5300. You can get one of these for £2k Best price from DealTime.co.uk

Extract from the Digital Home article:
Quote:
In the greatest upset since Goliath said "he wont hit me from there with that", the Hitachi leaps ahead of the Pioneer and Philips. It betters neither in their primary attributes but the Platara offers a slice of the best of the both at a far more appealing price. A bargain? You bet

RE: Liteon 5045 from SVP

Don`t hold your breath, see THIS LINK for a post with 130 responses listing why this is not a good buy.
Quote:
Well, their QA (quality assurance) department is either non-existent or stocked by a dead chicken, based on the number of firmware bugs present in the 5045 I have, so you could always apply there

I have a LiteOn 5006 and its got bugs and the latest firmware has not fixed the issue. See THIS LINK for 430 posts complaining about issues with this model.

The Sony GX3 or GX7 seem to be the best recorders right now (read above links from ex-LiteOn owners. Also see January edition of What HiFi magazine (UK best selling home hi-fi / home cinema mag))

RE: xbox with 2 games £87.99

There are different versions of the Xbox from 1.0 to 1.6b. There are no detectable end user differences between versions, most of the changes are believed to be to reduce manufacturing costs (new graphics chip) and to try and circumvent some of the mod chips on the market.

So short answer to your quetsion is NO, there are no differences between the `normal` Xbox and the Crystal Xbox. When the Xbox Crystal initially came out last year it was a limited edition and sold out. It was brought back for Christmas and these all sold out. I read an interview recently which commented that `there were no plans to re-introduce the Crystal Xbox in the New Year` (when stocks are replenshied). You can re-shell a black Xbox using a 3rd party kit for approx £30

RE: xbox with 2 games £87.99

Are Argos online orders sensitive to Postcode?!

I click on this link then click the `Home Delivery` option, I put in my house number and post code (PO10 7PG for instance) and then I get out of stock, yet it appears others can see it in stock?

RE: xbox with 2 games £87.99

RE: Blockbuster sale

Just remember to turn the discs over and look at the playing surface. Horrific is what I saw so they went straight back.

RE: Tesco Now selling from Jersey with extra discounts.

I have used Tesco Jersey for a DVD Purchase. Order placed 6pm on 4 Dec, it shipped 6 December, arrived 10 December. Very similar to play.com, just slightly slower delivery but that could be Christmas post skew.

But you get clubcard points on your purchases so Tesco Jersey wins for me :-)

RE: Sainsbury`s 28inch Widescreen TV £159.99

30 inches wide is clearly not an issue on a 28" television. however having a depth of 20 inches deep means, if you are trying to fit this into the corner of a room, you will be loosing a space where you could normally fit an arm chair!

I was feeding back my direct end user experiences, and ultimately a combination of sheer size and ergonomics which is why we returned the two Lodos 28" widescreens we bought for members of our family. Technically these are fantastic televisions, and if the centrepiece of your living room is your television, you will not be dissapointed. ;)

For us, it`s stick with the current set and wait for the LCD price to fall next year.

Pink Panther Collection (films) £24.22 at DVDsoon - 6 Disc Region 1

Just noticed this on DVDSoon - but they are saying re-release on 11 Jan 2005? Is there a staggerd release of this boxset then?

Link --> click here.

RE: Sainsbury`s 28inch Widescreen TV £159.99

You have to pick it up yourself, Managed to squeeze two in a VW Passat estate :-)

RE: Sainsbury`s 28inch Widescreen TV £159.99

Looks like new supply is turning up.... 5 arrived on Thursday 25 Nov to Sainsbury`s Chichester.... worth noting is this unit is 30 inches wide and 20 inches deep. That`s a big footprint in the corner of a room. And you will need to get a generic stand (approx £40) to place this on. We bought one for an elderly relative and the main power swicth in the central of the front panel was so stiff she could not turn it off (you know how some people have to turn everything off at night :-) )

Technically great picture and sound, was very impressed with the performance of this unit, even the integral analogue tuner produced a sharp picture. For £160 you cant beat this today for price vs perfromance......but a combination of size are ergonomics mean for the person we bought it for it`s not suitable so it`s going back today :-(

RE: aldi PC 5.1 Surround Sound System

Yes it would be perfect for a small room. Shame the Pacific 1002 does not have 5.1 RCA outs, only Digital Coax and TOS Optical :-(

RE: aldi PC 5.1 Surround Sound System

How do the speakers connect to the PC or DVD player? TOS Optical / Digital Coax or 6 x phonos ?

RE: Sainsbury`s 28inch Widescreen TV £159.99

Has anyone seen any of these on Sainsbury`s shelves this week......anywhere?!

RE: Free Digital Camera + free p&p

ditto - I was not given any ref number and not heard a thing. On the grounds that they did not ask for payment and I now have `an account` his does not feel to great!

RE: £700 Aldi PC next week

Impressive spec - you may not know the name on the outside but the branded componenets inside make this a desirable box. Here is the direct link:
