RE: When are you too old to play computer games?

I picked up my Bus Pass last week lol (don`t intend to use it...).

I regularly get near the top of the list when playing Medal of Honor or Call of Duty. Yes, I often get slammed by young bunnyhoppers with twitchy fingers, but experience counts for much, and I`m willing to wait a while before charging in. Also, I`m happy to work with a group and heal where necessary, whereas the teen players just want to get kills.

World of Warcraft doesn`t need sharp reflexes, just a bit of thought - and I`m happy to say that playing games has kept the mind alive.

Panny ES10 here.... only had it 2/3 months, but works like a dream, with a good manual, good menu system and great picture quality. Cost me £160 at ebuyer.com, but it`s now £10 cheaper, grrr You`ll want some nice cheap RAM discs too, look here www.ukdvdr.co.uk/shop/home.php?cat=264 I got 3 bins of the Ridiscs and they`ve been utterly reliable

Panasonic DMRES10 for £160

Hi all:

Just thought I`d mention this bargain from ebuyer. The same machine is being reduced by Argos to £230-ish and John Lewis for a mere £400...

I`ve got one on order, but does anyone have any thoughts about the machine? For example, I can`t find any reference anywhere to Video+.

And speaking of bargains - while you`re on the ebuyer site, look at their DVD-RAM discs at £13 for 10x4.9ers :o

RE: What sort of DVD Recorder will I need ?

DVD-RAM recorders will record up to 18 hours* (useful if you want to record 2 weeks-worth of Neighbours while you`re on the beach :)) but the machines are going to be £300+. The added advantage of RAM is Timeslip, so that you can start watching a programme that you`re still recording and you can also Pause the Live action while recording.


*but I don`t know what the quality issues are with this, I`m sure someone else does...

One thing that concerned me was a very evident jerkiness to the picture when watching through the Freeview box. Called the Aldi Helpline and spoke to a VERY helpful guy who really knew his stuff - he admitted that there was a known problem with the Tevion/Freeview setup. Namely, a jerky picture. So, he`s swapping the main unit in a couple of days for one which has the problem fixed. 8)

The downside is that in order to watch DVDs on the Sony in full Surround, I have to unplug the Scart from the Tevion and swap it for the Audio Scart adaptor from the Sony DVD. Not too much of aproblem, I guess....

Hi davmac

I just bought this on complete impulse yesterday - plugged it up today and after 4 hours, it`s as cool as a pint of Stella. Maybe there`s a new batch just come in?

I could do with some help with wiring-up, though, if anyone has a moment.

My present setup is VHS video (that`s going of course :), Sony DVD player (specifically bought because it also plays SACDs) with surround, Sony Freeview box and Sony TV. The audio leads (yellow black and red) go from the Sony DVD player to a SCART adaptor on the TV (it`s a SCART plug with no lead into the D-plug but an adaptor that takes the three phono leads), plus there`s a second SCART plug taking the output from the Freeview box.

So, I need the Sony DVD for the surround and SACD and would also need to run the audio from that into the TV. But at the same time, I need to run SCART from the Freeview into the TV. I decided to use the Tevion as a SCART-through and plugged the SCART from the Freeview box labelled VCR into the Tevion, and run the SCART out of the Tevion into the TV, leaving the SCART Audio adaptor in the TV taking audio from the Sony DVD player.

Everything seems to be fine, am I making any stoopid errors, or is that the way to progress?
