Poor quality image transfer?

I am transferring a few videos to DVd using my Panasonic DMR E55 EB machine. I normally did this via the TV and it is good. Just for fun I tried using a lead having a scart plug (switchable and switched to `out`) connected to the video player and a video S plug and audio L/R plugs into the AV3 front sockets on the DVD. The picture quality was awful ... grainy, lack of colour, sometimes no colour.
I then reverted to the good old scart to scart lead and it was even better than via the TV.

Any comments on the scart to video S and audio plugs system?

Also, we are noticing definite quality differences between different DVD-R discs. Tesco seem to be particularly low quality.

Cheers, Phil

RE: Help needed in connecting My Panasonic DMR E55 TO Sky + and VCR

I have set up to put videos on the DVD. My TV allows me to select a `monitor` function whereby the DVD records what is on screen at the time. I then just start to play the video (connected via a scart to the TV) and record on DVD via another scart from the TV.
I guess this route depends on your TV having 2 scarts. I just have to remember to switch the TV settings back from `monitor` after the recording. My normal setting is to record the DVB channels on the TV (it has a built in digital tuner)

Panasonic DMR E55EB jam

Advice please. While playing a DVD recorded on above equipt the picture stopped as if in pause mode. Timer also stopped. I tried various buttons to get it to start again but to no avail. Then it started to play again but the timer was not functioning. Plus no other keys on the remote or the machine would work .. even open/close, power off, skip, fast play etc. Eventually I tried pressing stop (filled in square) and CHup together (solver for cannot eject disc in the manual) and disc ejected. Unit then switched off OK. On switching back on it seems OK again and is recording Ok.

What hapened? Was it a disc fault (Tesco DVD-R)?

All help appreciated
Cheers, Phil
