RE: Samsung LE26R51BD High Definition T.V

No problem on the bracket info Like I said, I had to modify mine, and that also involved drilling some extra holes to fix the bracket to the TV. Still, I say if you can`t manage that, I really wouldn`t try wall-mounitng it in the first place!! :p

To be honest, depending on your setup, you might be happy with just the stand up against the wall, as it is quite narrow at the back. With the stand, you can get about 50mm away from the wall. However, I have a center speaker stood in front of the TV, and wit the stand, it pushes the speaker too far out, so I opted to wall mount to:

a) Get it closer to the wall (just 22mm off)
b) Allow me to move the front center speaker closer to the TV

Enjoy the TV when you get it mate, you will not be disappointed. Oh, and don`t be surprised at how small the box is - it`s really neatly packed.

When it comes to getting the contrast and brightness right etc., I know people have preferences and different environmnets to deal with, but I found that putting brightness at 60%, contrast at 60%, leaving the rest at 50%, and setting the colour to "Natural/Normal", gave me the best all-round set up for the kinds of films I like, from dark films like The Matrix to bright animations like Finding Nemo!

RE: Samsung LE26R51BD High Definition T.V

Wow, you are right, it has gone up by £50!! It`s a really popular TV though, so supply and demand dictates the price I guess (lots of demand, not a lot of product). It`s still possible to get the 41 model though (LE26R41BD) for around £650, or £600 without the digital tuner. If you phoned a store, you won`t get any discount, and their in-store price for this TV is £799. Even at that price though, it`s worth it!

To answer a couple of questions:

1) The VESA bracket I bought is this one:

http://www.futurehome.co.uk/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=440

It`s £25 plus delivery, but you can find this for almost £50 at other places, so it`s a good price. I had to modify the bracket slightly because of where I was mounting it, but it`s as solid as a rock.

2) Progressive scan. Well, my DVD player is new enough to have HDMI out, so that`s what I use. However, component leads will work equally as well without any really loss of quality. Remember, the TV is "HD Ready", and as such it has to be able to handle Prog Scan.

RE: Samsung LE26R51BD High Definition T.V

They told me that the offer had expired, but only by day or something, so they honoured the price. I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that it was my third freakin` order with them for the same item (long story...!)

I watched another movie on it last night in Prog Scan, and the quality just blows me away every time I see it! You`ll have to let me know what you think when you get it.

I just got mine wall mounted too - looks really smart.

Hi,

I never trust any of the specifications that places like Currys! They are usually always incorrect in one way or another.

Anyway, I can confirm that the model number is the LE26R51BD, and it has a built-in digital tuner as you would expect from this model.

Cheers for the heads up on the promotion code - I called them and despite me already having received the order, they are going to credit me with £50...sweet!

Enjoy the set mate, I know you will :)

RE: Plasma/LCD TV advice needed please

Any "HD Ready" TV that bears the official logo will be guaranteed to give you the following:

- Either HDMI or DVI digital inputs. Both are fine for High Def content. HDMI is the same as DVI except that is also has digital audio.
- Component inputs. The TV must be capable of accepting analogue signals.
- Minimum 720p and 1080i High Def @ both 50Hz and 60Hz (i.e. will display content from both Europe and US)
- HDCP (High Definition Content Protection) compatible. This is mandatory, because Sky will certainly be using this.

Beyond that, any HDTV you buy should also have RGB SCART, S-Video, and composite. If not, don`t buy it because it must be rubbish!! lol

I`ve been through the same mine field, and came out with the Samsung LE26R51BD (only needed a small TV). It is officially HD Ready, and just waiting for my XBox 360!!

At least you now have the luxury of the "HD Ready" logo. Look for that and you will have no compatibility issues for many, many years.

RE: Samsung LE26R51BD High Definition T.V

I have just bought the same TV from Currys on-line for £699, and it is absolutely FANTASTIC! You might know of the LE26R41BD model too, which is essentailly the same, except for three things:

1) The styling - I prefer the 51 model with the black also coming to a point.
2) The response time is faster (8ms compared to 12ms).
3) It`s newer, and contains updated firmware.

I couldn`t find the 51 model anywhere for less money, and when you consider that you still need to pay around £650 for the older 41 model with digital tuner, you really can`t go wrong. I`ve had two LCD TVs in the past, and this just has amazing clarity, contrast, and brightness.

Go for it, you will not be disappointed.
