RE: Toshiba D - R150 dvd recorder

I have got one of these, had it a couple of months now, and it is brilliant, after trying several other machines like the (dare I say it and swear on here ?) the Cyberhome 1600 and the Philips 3305.
The timeslip function is fantastic, means I can start recording a programme, go and have a bath or shower, come back, and start watching the programme from the start whilst still recording it.
The user manual is VERY comprehensive, I am still working my way through it, and still have to refer to it at times.
The only thing I am concerned with it is: when I play back discs that I have made on my PC (backups of legally owned films) sometimes it wont play them, or gets so far then sticks, not sure if this is a fault with the machine or the disc, it plays commercial discs without any problems at all, and plays back stuff recorded on itself very well, the 6hr recording mode is fairly clear as well, a slight reduction in quality, but I only ever use this long mode for a programme that I would have otherwise missed, then I wipe the disc after watching it, so not really a problem for me, if I am reording something I want to keep then I use a shorter mode, the 3 hour mode seems to perform very well.

I paid the full £149.99 for mine from Asda, now I see they are down to £89.99, even at £149.99 it was a fantastic machine, so at £89.99 I would grab one quick.........I might even go and buy a second one next week for the bedroom.

Highly reccomended, only snag is, it appears that you need the machine chipped for multiregion playback, a real shame as it would have been nice to have been able to do a remote hack for it, also, it would have been nice if it recorded onto +R\RW discs, but I only use the machine as a replacement for the VCR, or to transfer VCR`s onto DVD and from Camcorder, which gives an outstanding performance.
Anyone considering buying a DVD Recorder and who only wants to pay a reasonable price, I would say go and treat yourself to one of these machines, you won`t be disspaointed with it.

Owner is now happy, I gave it back to him with a DVD read drive in, he can watch DVDs on it and record on the VCR side.
He insisted I took some money for doing what I have done on it, more than I was expecting, so I am not complaining, so end of the matter.

That`s as I expected, I wasn`t going to hold my breath waiting for a response from Bush.
As for the jumper on the back of the rplacement drive, I have tried that, the original was on the master setting, I have tried master, slave, and cable select on the replacement, all settings have the same result, plays discs fine but no record, just an error code.

I have left a message for the owner telling him of the status of the unit and I am waiting for him to let me know what to do with it, personally I know what I WANT to do with it....................where I live there is a massive communial brick binshed, I reckon it should take new residence in there, mind you, if he does tell me to scrap it, I suppose it will be useful as a VCR recorder and DVD player, I already have a DVD recorder myself, which brings me to another question..............anyone got a region hack for the Toshiba D-R150 machine ?
Also, anyone know if the Toshiba can be made to take +r\+rw discs ?

I started just before Xmas with my first DVD recorder, it was.............dare I mention it on here ?.................the Cyberhome DVR1600 which went back to the shop a week after getting it, and was replaced with another one the same, which went back 2 weeks later, which was replaced with the Philips DVDR 3305, which went back 3 weeks later and was replaced with another 3305 which went back a month and a half later to be replaced with the Toshiba which went back the same day because it failed at startup, which was replaced with the Toshiba which (touch wood) seems to be working okay at the moment...............I have not had a lot of luck with DVD recorders, I think I will go back to Betamax VCR :D

WIth the drive lid removed so you can see the insides, the disc IS spinning, you can see the laser mechanism trying to scan for data on the disc, but it just isn`t reading it, you can see the red glow from the lens so the laser is actually powering up, I don`t have a way to check the strength of the laser nor the focus of it, so it is difficult to judge things.
I was wondering if there is anywhere in the UK that repairs the optical drives ? it might be a cheaper option that trying to get an OEM drive then get the firmware for it, I have E mailed Bush but no response from them at all.
The current status of the machine is that I have got a DVD Rom drive fitted in it and it reads every disc I throw at it, commercial DVD`s and ones I have recorded, which I would have thought means that the rest of the machine must be working okay, in that it is processing the data and doing what it should be doing, I just wish I could get the thing to record, but as you have pointed out, it needs the correct firmware to be installed on the drive.

The original drive is fitted into the PC, the PC is "seeing" the drive, and is giving me the make and model number etc, I reckon it is the laser that has failed rather than anything on the main PCB of the drive, I carefully opened up the drive and using a cotton bud I gave the lens a clean over, but still it fails to read the disc, the laser is functioning as such, in that you can see the red glow from it as it tries to read the disc (I have kept my eyes away from it).

Before I discard the original drive I will have another go at cleaning it and checking the focus to see if that is the problem.
It is a shame that the replacement DVDRW drive wont work, it tries to record onto a disc but fails, rendering the disc as a coaster to sit my cup of coffee on LOL.

I will let you know how things progress.

Thanks for that, ah, I see, so the original drive would have firmware specific to the machine, I need to know then where I can try looking for the original firmware, at the moment the recorder has got a DVDRW in it that I borrowed from my computer, it plays discs fantastic, the problem is when I attempt to record.
I have E mailed the company who made the thing, but I wont hold my breath waiting for a response from them, we all know what these companies are like, they are fine the whole time they are making money from you, but when it comes to after-sales care, most of them don`t know what that means LOL.

I have tried cleaning the lens on the original drive, to no avail, it is currently fitted into a PC, so if I can find the original firmware I am hoping I can flash-upgrade it whilst in the PC.
It wont read any discs at all while fitted in the PC so a clear indication that the unit has failed, although the drive is only 2 years old, I am surprised it has failed so quick, and because it was made by Pioneer, their stuff is normally more hard-wearing that that, oh well, maybe I will have to get on to Pioneer and see if they can help me.

If anyone knows of a firmware upgrade I can try on the recorder please let me know, it can`t make the thing any worse than it already is.

BUSH DVD RECORDER\VCR COMBI HELP PLEASE

Hi everyone, I am here in the desperate hope that someone can help me please.

I have a Bush DVD Recorder\VCR Combi. Model DVRH S01
It failed to read any discs, so I checked inside (I am fairly good at repairing these things), and I notice that the drive unit is an IDE drive, it is a Pioneer DVR-106RZ RW drive.
I have tested the drive and it has definately failed, it wont work in a PC either.
Ok, so I then plugged a DVD Rom drive into the machine, and hey presto, I can play DVDs on the machine now, the next step was to plug a DVDRW drive in, and it will play discs no problems at all, the problem comes when trying to record, it fails, saying "Cannot Record", if I stick a DVD-r disc in the tray, turn the machine off then back on it goes through a formatting stage, which gets to about 95% then it fails, rendering the disc unusable forever, I have tried a RW disc but it just comes up and says "incorrect disc".

I really want to get this machine working as it belongs to an elderly disabled man who cannot afford to go and buy a new one, he is prepared to buy a replacement DVDRW drive, but I don`t want to buy the drive only to find that it still wont record.

The RW drive I have plugged in to it is a single layer dual format drive, I tried a dual layer drive but it wont even read pre-recorded discs with that one.


Please Please Please Please, oh, did I say Please ? someone help me with this as quick as possible, I would be eternally grateful if someone can help me get this thing working properly again, I think I am at the stage where I would be prepared to do ANYTHING to get it working.

Region Hack Wanted For Toshiba DVD Recorder

Anyone know of the region hack for the Toshiba D-R150SB DVD Recorder ?

I really want the region hack for this model, and any other hacks or tricks etc, like, can it be made to record on +R\+RW discs ?

Also, Macrovision hack in available.

Multi Region hack is so that you can play DVDs from other countries, EG: Europe is Region 2 USA is Region 1 (I believe), the region hack for the 3305 works perfect, I have got one and done the hack on mine.
Now, the problem you are getting, trying to copy your OF&H tapes onto DVD, the problem is the MACROVISION PROTECTION, there is no macrovision hack for this machine (unless someone knows one, if so I need it pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease).

The only way round it is to buy a special scart lead, with built in electronics to get rid of the macrovision, they can be expensive, but apparently they do work (I have not tried one yet).

RE: Philips DVD Recorder - £129.99 @ Sainsburys

I bought one of these from my local Asda, after owning a Cybers***e DVR1600ME and taking it back after so many problems with it.

I got my first DVDR3305 about 6 weeks ago, and have already had to take it back and get a replacement, the problem was that after erasing a DVDRW it was taking some 3 1\2 minutes to eject the disc, during which time you could do nothing with the machine, it would not respond to any button presses on either the remote or the front panel.

The replacement machine is also doing the same.
The other night, I was recording a programme, when suddenly it stopped recording and entered timer recording mode, although I had NOT set the timer to do any recording at all !!!!!!!!!

I am gonna give it another few days and if it still gives me problems than it too will be going back to Asda, I have noticed that they have got some different models in there for about another £20 so I might poay this extra and get a different one.
Anyone seen the ones in Asda ? and can someone please reccomend the best one they do in there ?
I wanna get it from Asda because they are not far from my home, and they are pretty good about replacing faulty goods so long as you have got the receipt with you.

I think they have got a Panasonic one in there.
I do NOT want the Goodmans, or any other s***e make like that, I always thought Philips weere pretty good, at least years ago their stuff was pretty reliable, although in the old days when they used carbon track potentiometers (volume etc. controls) they were always the first parts to fail, then came the mechanical switches.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

MACROVISION HACK WANTED, WILL SEND PHOTO`S TO ANYONE WHO HELPS

I need a macrovision hack for my Philips DVDR3305 if anyone has got it.
I saw in another post from another sexy female that she would send pics of her naked to anyone who helps her, so I thought I would try the same tactic.

I have got some VERY explicit photo`s of me, and would share them with the first person who helps me with this.

I have already done the multi-region hack for the machine and it works fantastic, I tried earlier today to copy a video for my next door neighbour and it came up on screen that it was macrovision protected and automatically went into record pause mode and wouldn`t let me copy the film.

I promise that whoever sends the information to me won`t be dissapointed with the pics in return, so come on boys (or girls), let me have it please (and the hack LOL)

LG DVD 4710 Modifications

Anyone know how to modify the LG DVD4710 so that it will play CDR\DVDRs ?

It is a fantastic player, but will only play commercially made discs, which is a shame, I would like to play my backed up discs on it.
I think the quality of this machine is far superior to many others I have seen.

I have done the region hack and the VCD hacks, and both work great, but without being able to play CDR\DVDR`s it is a bit of a waste of space.

I have also got 2 other DVD players, the cheapo brands, and they both play the above mentioned discs with no problems at all.

Any help would be appreciated.

The second hack works on the ME model, I done it on mine tonight and it works fantastic.

Can anyone help with another question please ?

I have done the firmware upgrade, and I can`t play DIVX anymore (It was working until I done the upgrade), is there another hack to re-enable the DIVX ?

Hi & thanks for the information, I got one of these machines last weekend from Asda, and it wouldn`t play my favourite film, The Crying Game (USA Import), I done the second hack you list and presto, it works fantastic.

Anymore hacks for these machines would be handy, I like the machine, although it does have a couple of niggly annoying things about it that could be better, but hey, I guess you need to pay a lot more for extra features.

One annoying thing is, when I burn DVDs on the PC on DVD+R discs, they wont play on the machine, but DVD-Rs are fine.
