RE: POLL: Social Services: A Waste of Space
Quote:
Unfortunatly Social Services seem more interested in protecting the scum rather than the those they shoud, namely the weak and innocent.
It must be a great career because they very rarely get sacked for incompetance and, whatever goes wrong, its never their fault!
My wife is a Children`s Social Worker... and I could not face the things she has to on a daily basis.. It is far from a great career.. there are no perks to the job, the pay does not account for the danger she regularly puts herself, the abuse she receives is disgusting, the financial support from local government is basically non exisitent and the workload and shortage of staff make it virtually impossible... She works from 8.00 am till 7.00pm then comes in and writes reports till midnight... but yes.. it`s a great career... when she`s able to help children that have been so badly treated and so neglected that it makes me feel physically sick when I hear about it...
Do you know how hard it is for a mother of two see the cruelty and abuse that she has seen?... but she still does it.. because someone has to
RE: New Star Wars Film released August 2008
Took my 3 year old and she liked it.. I enjoyed parts of it.. but that awful little s*** is the most annoying character ever int he Star Wars franchise.. she makes Jar Jar almost bearable...
I did, however love Zero the Hutt.... an camper than camp homosexual Hutt from what appears to be the deep south??.. genius!..
RE: wispa returns
if only they`d re-release texans again..... I bought 4 boxes last time they did it!
RE: THE DARK KNIGHT: Anticipation thread
Awesome... a genre movie that doesn`t limit itself to the inherited conventions or indeed limitations and as such is simply a great film.. Wonderful perfomances, highly skilled direction, and for once in a super-hero movie, a fascinating, complex narrative.
2 brilliant films in 2 weeks (Wall-e and this) makes me a happy haggis!
oh.. and don`t overlook Heath Ledger`s performance just because of the hype (or even the hype about the hype).. he is truly magnificent and disturbing in a role that as a result of his death appears more macarbe and melancholic than is intended.
RE: "The Nine" on Five US
Don`t say I didn`t warn you!
RE: WALL-E Anyone looking forward to seeing Pixar`s new movie?
I thought it was astounding... such a worthwhile movie with so much to say and for audiences to think about.. Not sure why you lot seem to think Nemo wasn`t up to much.. I love the movie as any parent trying to bring up a child should.. It`s such a clever script that deals superbly with loss and it`s effect on parent and child...
RE: Has anyone seen TV Show Breaking Bad?
yeah.. thought I`d dip back into the forum for a bit..
RE: "The Nine" on Five US
I started to watch this last year and it was diabolical.. if i remember.. I laughed all the way through it...
RE: Has anyone seen TV Show Breaking Bad?
I`m sure there were 7?..
Has anyone seen TV Show Breaking Bad?
This is without a doubt the best series in years.. and seeing as Bryan Cranston has been nominated for an emmy... I just thought I`d see if there were any other fans on here?..
I doubt whether it will actually be shown in this country due to it`s detailed drug making scenes...
RE: The Doctor is back at last!
Well.. that was a big let down.. it was just silly...
thank god(s) for BSG.. now that`s how you open a new series!..
RE: so....Haggis....you & me have been busy huh??
Well.. it`s been ages since I even looked at the forum.. but I thought I`d see what was happening.. and my name is mentioned!.. yes.. there is another addition to the clan on the way.. and It`s particularly welcome as my wife had miscarried earlier in the year..
thanks for the shout!..

RE: Bought a pair of trainers 2 days ago......

i think everyone should front up to what trainers they wear. maybe paull will release his guilty secret..
I switch between three pairs.. most of the time.
I see your three pairs and raise em..
it warms my heart to think of all the little chinese women and men sweating their arses off just to make me trainers i`ll never wear

RE: Crime Genre?
Quote:
Faves so far:
Maltese Falcon
Godfather
Goodfellas
True Romance
The Business
The Departed
Agree?
Nope..
do they all have to be hollywood?
what about splitting in into sub-genres? and not having too many Gangster films.. or at least screen different takes on the Gangster genre
The Godfather
Fargo
A Better Tomorrow
Double Indemnity
Reservoir Dogs
Yojimbo
City of God
Strangers on a train or Rope
Hound of the Baskervilles (Basil Rathbone)
Bugsy Malone
Heat
Brick
Killing Zoe
French Connection
Sexy Beast
there are loads to choose from..try and screen films they haven`t seen before.. open them up to new cultures, new styles and always make them challenging
RE: Tiswas is back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Quote:
Never saw Tiswas much as a kid due to the fact that our aerial was pointed at the transmitter for Tyne Tees despite us being in Yorkshire and they never showed it
F***ing Tyne Tees
Tell me about it!.. they did show it one year.. but that was in it`s last one.. Tyne Tees was a nightmare for kids growing up in the 70s.. all we had was 1930s serials.. and some old curly haired bloke reading out birthdays..
RE: Too old for networking
I use facebook.. and I`m 35... but I`m a mature student.. so that`s my excuse

RE: Some c*nt decided to call me a black B**tard today
Don`t let it bother you.. it`s not worth it..
F*** them if they can`t be bothered to make the distinction between black and indian..
if they`d been on the ball.. they could have slated you for having a small cock

RE: does anyone want me to say something bad about something?
Quote:
Men......................I can start if you want me to
not really.. because
a) you won`t have anything interesting to say
b) it will be without substance and without a general point
c) I wont read it... i may pretend to read it and will grunt in the right places, but I will mostly be thinking of how Sam Allardyce is not the man for the job at Newcastle..
RE: Just seen 28 weeks later.. and i`m knackered!... contains light spoilers
Quote:
A very intense horror with a decent subtext
What subtext did you pick up on?
Just seen 28 weeks later.. and i`m knackered!... contains light spoilers
What a way to spend some nice quite time with the wife, while my mother in law looks after my daughter... I`m more knackered now that anything my little Isabel can throw at me...
I absolutely loved it...
I loved Robert Carlyle as the selfish coward, I loved the decimated scenes of London, I loved the sense of pain at having the yanks bail us out, but mostly I loved the gore..
2 scenes stand out - A truly brutal attack that involves fingers in the eyes (I wont say anymore).. and a fantastic use of helicopter blades.. the former is truly harrowing and certanly carries a subtext of domestic abuse!.. while the latter is more lightweight and great fun...
but bloody hell is it all very intense - the style of shot, the score, the relentless running... whew!.. i`m off for a lie down..
RE: Newspapers- who needs em?
Quote:
but with the full magazine at around 60MB,
if it`s 60MB your doing it wrong.. especially if you don`t intend to print it.. you should be able to get it down to about 6 mb
RE: Newspapers- who needs em?
not really extreme.. just reality i`m afraid.. they just can`t compete with online news or 24 news tv.. certainly in the case of my last employers - they have devolved into some sort of community info publicaton.. filled with gossip and nonsense..

RE: Newspapers- who needs em?
I`m afraid the end of newspapers are nigh.. advertising revenues are down, readership is dwindling and staff are losing their jobs left, right and centre. (and i should know!)
