W850i screen problem

Hi,

I just got my new W850i from The Carphone Warehouse and I`ve noticed that the screen seems to "pulse" when I`m using it. The screen dims slightly, then goes really bright and dims a bit again. Has anyone else had this problem, or know what I`m talking about?

If I have to exchange the phone it I`d rather do it sooner than later, even though it`s all nicely setup for email/texts etc.

Anyone have a thought as to what the problem might be?

EDIT: I`ve just found out that the screen dimming/brightening is down to the light sensor on the top left of the phone. The screen dims and the keypad lights up when in a darker room, whereas the screen remains bright in broad daylight/bright rooms so that you can see the screen without problems. I wish there was a way to disable it...

I must be the exception to HMV around here as I ordered 18 DVDs as part of the 3 for £15 and received all of them in good time. Not a single problem.

But then I`ve not tried its CS so I don`t know if that`s where it falls apart. Fingers crossed for everyone here though.

I`ve got all the eps of Brotherhood that have gone out but haven`t had the time to watch them yet.

Thanks for the heads up about Six Degrees. It sounds interesting so I just went out and got both episodes. Gawd only knows when I`ll see it, might have to encode it for PSP and watch it on the bus... :D

This is a little of the blurb for Jericho:

The storyline revolves around the small, rural town of Jericho, Kansas, and what happens to its residents in the aftermath of a nuclear explosion in nearby Denver, Colorado which causes a loss of power and communications that leaves Jericho isolated.

Just in case you thought I meant bombs being set off in one small town itself. :-)

I really like Heroes so far.

Vanished is too slow and a little dull for my liking, I stopped after four episodes.

Justice gripped me from the first ep.

Smith is very good.

I personally like Standoff, even though others say they don`t like it.

Kidnapped is new and it`s okay, hopefully will get better.

Tried Blade but thought it was pap so stopped after the pilot show.

Jericho is pretty good so far. A small town in America where loads of nuclear bombs have been set off and they have to survive.

Angela`s Eyes started okay, but then just bored me. It was a little slow for my liking.

Just got Dexter, but not seen it yet. Supposed to be a forensics guy who gets his own back by playing vigilante on the criminals that get away (or something like that).

Good to see The Unit back for season 2, special ops and domestic bliss, what a great combo!

Not tried House yet, but started Greys Anatomy and that seems pretty good too.

I`m also hooked on Brain Training Sudoku, but the games do get harder!! I love Mario Kart and New Super Mario. Tetris is also very good.

I also have Polarium, a puzzle game, which is another addictive one for me, got it for £7 on eBay. I love DS Lite, it`s just easy to carry and play. I haven`t touched my PSP in months.............

Microsoft OEM Windows XP

Hi,

Having been out of the whole PC/Windows scene for a long time, I need to find out some info for a friend.

He has Windows 2000 installed on his desktop and has been using it without problem as it`s stable and works for him. Now he has to install XP for a few things and can`t wait for Vista.

My question is this: Can he buy a copy of Microsoft OEM Windows XP and install this, not as an upgrade but as a clean install, via the CD/DVD it comes on? Will he be able to activate it and use it like a regular copy of XP?

I think you should try to get it replaced if you`re not happy with it. Even with one dead pixel. I think if you`re polite to HMV they`ll just swap it out, I would. :-)

My black Lite had two dead pixels, one on each screen. One was bright green, the other black, and they were always noticeable. Amazon just sent me a replacement which is perfect.

I agree with the comments here. It`s been up and down over the past 5-years and these last 2-episodes were okay. On the whole I`ve enjoyed Alias. In fact I`m thinking of going back to season 1 for the SD6 days and starting all over again knowing what I know now. I think it would be good to watch them all back-to-back, if I didn`t have Prison Break to start watching, with last seasons 24, two seasons of Grey`s Anatomy, two seasons of House and Doctor Who.

Plenty to keep me occupied!

What dya mean "guru"? :D I`m nothing of the sort, just a Mac fanatic...! Kind of. I wish they`d pay me more money at work though. :-( I digress, sorry!

Multiple profiles eh? There are some good suggestions here, like Miles` use of a shared path and this would work, except that if someone else logs in and starts iTunes, anything purchased/added to the library would need to be manually added to the other users library since one profile has it, but the others don`t until you manually add it (does this make sense?). This can get tedious.

The best thing to do is have one users` iTunes be the central iTunes for everyone. You can use multiple iPods with one iTunes as each iPod has its own name and that means each iPod also has it`s own preferences. Let everyone create their own custom playlists and they can synch these lists to their iPods when connected.

Connect one iPod, and set its preferences to synch the selected playlist (you can have more than one playlist per iPod). Disconnect it, then connect the next iPod, and so on. Changes to the playlists will be reflected on the iPods when these are connected. Now this one iTunes can be kept fully up-to-date and everyone will have access to all of the music.

I have three iPods with one iTunes and they all play well with one another, give it a try!

At least I`m not the only one who thinks When a Stranger Calls is sh*te. I saw it last weekend and thankfully didn`t pay to see it. It`s the worst film I`ve seen in yonks and that`s really saying something.

I just saw Down in the Valley and enjoyed that. It at least wiped my mind of When a Gobsh*te Calls...

Thanks for your reply. I`m so used to buying stuff off the shelf I`d forgotten about making my own drive! ;-) But then I don`t have any spare HDs lying around so I`d still need to get one and an enclosure.

Might I be better off with an off the shelf in this scenario?

Mobile harddrive recommendations please!

I need to buy a mobile bus powered HD and wanted feedback from anyone here with any particular model/brands that they use and recommend.

I`ve seen the Freecom Classic Mobile HD 120GB which is about £100 and this model looks good.

Anyone here use a mobile drive?

Any help is appreciated, cheers!

Yes the stock footage was just that. While it pains me to see Lana these days, she`ll be useful to Zod. But I think it`ll just be more angst, and actually while I think about it it could be painful to watch. I just want to see what happens next. If only they could keep the writing consistent then it could be a better show; right now it`s a few standouts per season with the rest being somewhat dull progressing very little of the story we`re all really interested in. On to S5 in the autumn then...

I have to say that I was impressed with the last double-bill that went out last week. Will this be a shorter season, less than 22 episodes? We`re on ep11 at the moment, the usual half-way mark, but episode guides go short so I`m not sure.

Just watched episode 18 and I have to say that personally, it`s one of my favourite episodes this season. Directed by Tom Welling (can`t remember seeing him get a director credit before) too.

Unfortunately it`s not free and costs £35 to crossgrade to the new version.

I take it you have Final Cut Studio, part number: M9911B/A? Follow the link on the right hand side in the crossgrade chart. Order from the UK or Ireland. Do read the instructions on this page however as it requires you to order the upgrade from the website, print out the confirmation page, and post it with your original install DVDs to Apple in Ireland. Then you`ll get the new version sent to you.
