RE: Macrovision off a Bush DVD2004
Older versions of the Bush 2004 had the macrovision already disabled. However newer models have removed this and I don`t think there`s a hack to get around it.
Sorry.
RE: Crouching Tiger subtitles different in different regions?
Not really sure about an accurate translation, but I remember watching it in the cinema and then purchasing it DVD (Region 2), and I found the subtitles to be slightly different.
RE: Can you disable Macrovision on Bush DVD?
Older versions of this machine have the macrovision already disabled.
However, newer versions have it removed and there isn`t a hack to activate it.
Thanks, but...
...Richer Sounds ordered some more and within a week I managed to get one (picked one up two days ago).
To my surprise it seems to be like an update of the Ariston-2000 DVD player (which I owned previously), as it has the same menu system. The look of the machine is also similar.
Being similar to the Ariston the hack also works. It`s is multi-regional and you can disable macrovision.
Open the disc tray and press 7, 4, Enter.
Change the regional setting to 13 to play all regions.
On the second screen change the macrovision number to 0. Unfortunately this resets after you switch the machine off.
I want an Eclipse 695!
These machines seem to be selling pretty fast where I am.
I went into my nearest Richer Sounds store on Saturday asking for an Eclipse 695.
I was told that they weren`t really selling a lot till that Saturday when they compleately sold out! Even their display model had gone!
Bush 2004
The Bush 2004 is not that bad a machine (the one I had disabled macrovision).
I only had it for a week though as I didn`t like the glitches. Froze on me once and the subtitles sometimes keep appearing for no reason. Also on some popular discs (such as M:I2) you can`t turn the subtitles off!
Anyhow at the price it`s not too bad when you consider that it`s multi regional out the box.
I`ve seen the Home Cinema system you`re talking about in Currys for around £270.
I`d say the Ariston 2000
Try the Ariston 2000 at £160 from Richer Sounds. It`s a heavily underrated machine.
It`s multiregional, disables macrovision, and can tackle RCE.
Only Optical Digital and SCART. No S-Video.
I know this
Um... Neon I know the difference between Pro-Logic and Digital. And I know why DVD players are built into these Mini systems (all in one Home Cinemas).
I just think it would be nice if one of these came without a built in DVD player should someone want to buy a stand alone DVD player or if someone already has a DVD player.
Anyhow I did manage to find that Sharp Mini system with a Dolby Digital decoder:
http://www.homecinemachoice.com/testbench/MINIMIDISystems/Sharp/SharpCD-C491H.shtml
But it`s a few years old and I don`t think it`s for sale anymore. Will any companies out there make more machines like this? Or is this the only one of it`s kind?

Budget
I have a budget of £400.
I already have a (cheap) Pro-Logic Hi-Fi and would like to upgrade to Digital.
I was thinking about a seperates system and had a look in Richer Sounds but the cost would sprial up and become rather expensive.
But really if they can make Pro-Logic systems with and without DVD players built in then why can`t they do the same with Dolby Digital?
Anyhow, I`ve noticed Samsungs Mini DVD system (the DN55) which looks like a good buy. Since their previous DVD players were hackable there`s a good chance this `might` be too. I`ll take a look at it.
Those DVD Hi-Fi jobbies
With all these DVD Hi-Fi jobbies appearing in shops it looks like a great way to get into the latest Home Cinema experience. These mini systems come with a DVD player, Digital decoder and all you speakers built in.
In some ways this is all rather good, but I`d actually prefer a stand alone DVD player since they`re easily hackable (I don`t think I`ve come across any DVD Hi-Fi`s that are multi regional, disable macrovision, combat RCE), but then I`d be missing out on the Dolby Digital sound.
Basically, what I`m looking for a mini system with a built in Dolby Digital decoder, plays CD, tapes and does all the usual stuff a Hi-Fi is supposed to do, but DOESN`T play DVD`s. Does one exist? Is one currently in the works? I think Sharp made one a while back.
I don`t want an all-in-one amplifier and speaker package. The family and me would like to make use of tapes and CD`s.
Maybe I`m not the only one (or maybe I am), but there probably are a few people out there that already have a DVD player and might like to experience Dolby Digital from a mini system. It just seems odd that all Dolby Digital mini systems come with built in DVD players.
I saw this too!
I noticed this too.
I cheked the back of the case for The 6th Day and it says that the film`s sound is in 2.0 Stereo. NOT Dolby Digital or either Pro-Logic.
I find it strangely odd that a very recent film has been released on DVD with only a stereo soundtrack.
Maybe though it`s only a mistake on the case and there is a 5.1 track on the disc.
But has anyone brought it who can confirm it?
RE: Never Mind Mummy Returns ... Go And See Shrek or Final Fantasy!!
Come on now! The Mummy Returns isn`t as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
BUT I`m most certainly looking forward to Final Fantasy more then anything else this summer. It may not break the box office but I`m sure it`ll turn out to be a surprise hit!
The Headbutt!
The print I saw actually contained two headbutts. One from Rachel Weisz`s character and another from Oded Fehr`s character. Did anyone else spot these headbutts?
I`ve heard that they`re were cut from the UK version to bring the rating down from a 15 to a 12.
RE: What dvd player to buy?
The Ariston is not bad actually. It seems to be a heavily underrated DVD player.
It`s multiregional (it can handle RCE discs too), plays MP3`s and also disables macrovision.
The only thing I found wrong with it was that the sound quality from CD playback is quite poor. But then again DVD players are mainly about movies and the playback from DVD discs is just fine on this player!
I recommend it!
Limit JDV-300a
I think the macrovision is already disabled on the Limit JDV-300A. I also recently found out that this is actually a clone of the Bush DVD2004 (minue the built in games)
RE: Unholy Subtitles... (LG3000)
The same thing happens with the Bush 2004 and I think the Limit JDV300A as well.
And as far as I can tell, I`m afraid it`s just something you`re going to have to live with! At the moment there doesn`t seem to be anyway of solving it.
What about 2001?
I would agree with you in same cases! The films of 2000 were a bit average but I did like Beeing John Malkovich, Three Kings, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, X-Men and Gladiator!
Anyhow, in terms of movies to lookforward to in the summer, I think this year might be a little better then the last. Especially when you take a look at the line up of movies to look forward to.
The Mummy Returns (The trailers suggest something better then the first movie)
Pearl Harbour
Tomb Raider
Jurassic Park 3
Final Fantasy (Definately looking forward to this one!)
Dr Dolittle 2
Planet of the Apes
Rush Hour 2

RE: Subtitle Dilema (Bush DVD2004)
It`s a problem that seems to happen with certain discs on the Bush 2004. Same thing happens with Mission: Impossible 2!
If you can`t get rid of it then there`s nothing else you can do! By the sound of it you`ve tried everything you can.
Macrovision
I think the macrovision is already disabled on this machine, so you`ve no need for a hack. Try it and let me know!
I`m considering this machine so please tell me if it`s any good or has any problems.
RE: BUSH DVD-2009
I think (but I`m not entirely sure) that the Bush 2009 is the same as the Bush 2004 model. So it`s already multi-regional and macrovision is already disabled without the need of entering a hack.
You`ll have to experiment and see!
Machines that disable macrovision.
In case you want to know the following machines are available from Richer Sounds and they can disable macrovision. This is taken from thier website.

RE: Is the Terminator-Special Edition Cut?
Having a look in WHSmith`s this morning and the Special Edition DVD of The Terminator was placed next to the VHS version.
The really odd thing though is that the DVD version is certificate 15, while the VHS version is an 18.
I have no idea why this is.
Hmmmm!
I brought the Ariston 2000 2 weeks ago. I picked it up for £160 and it`s a fairly good machine. You can make it multi regional by entering a hack (it`s at the multi region hack section of this web site) and you can also disable the macrovision too! Picture quality was very good for a machine at this price! The sound was reasonable, but CD`s didn`t sound very good through it. It`s a great starter machine and very easy to use, even though the instruction manual looks to have been made in a rush!
I changed the Ariston for a Bush 2004 just yesterday. It`s £180. It has a very cheep feel about it. It`s very light and the remote is nasty! It`s multi regional and can also disable macrovision without the need of entering a hack. The picture quality is average and slightly dark in places. The sound is top quality though as it has a built in DD decoder. I`ll have to play around with it some more though to see if I`m going to keep it.
They`re both good players and at the moment I wouldn`t know which one I`d recommend over the other.
Specifically Ariston 2000 owners (but anyone who knows will do!)
I own this machine (but am thinking of changing it). I was expecting it to have a built in Dolby Digital Decoder but it didn`t!
But I was flicking through the instruction manual and saw that there is another version of this machine with a built in 5.1 decoder.
What I want to know is does anyone own this machine with a 5.1 decoder?
I have heard that it was planned but never made.
Or it was made and known as the Bush 2002.
On a slightly different matter, if I do change my machine, does anyone have any recommendations?
Requirements are that it has to be multi-regional (but not something like the Bush 2000 which only plays half of region 1 discs).
It has to have a 5.1 decoder (to save space in the house).
And it has to disable macrovision (to make my father happy).
RE: bush dvd-2004 macro
Seeing as the machine is multi-region out of the box have you tried recording a DVD to VHS to see if the macrovision is already disabled?
