hmv sale revisited - no, don`t run away! some new info

I revisited the Worcester HMV sale a couple of days ago and there appeared to be a lot of new stuff there. Okay, some of it was obviously replacing previous sale items, but there seemed to be quite a few `one offs` now (e.g. a lot of the truly obscure early Jackie Chans which I doubt anyone other than a diehard fan would consider buying unless they were at sale price) which I hadn`t previously seen in the sale.

Hey! Easy tiger! I`m not a die-hard Jackie-Fan, but I have a lot of his more obscure titles which I did NOT buy in a sale.

At the least they are a good culture comparison.
Look at how the focus of the film changes from the Hong Kong originals to the `Rush Hour` films today.

At the most, they are fascinating action films - some of the kung fu s*** he does is quite spectular and in my humble opinion is far more applause worthy than a 30-man, 3-month effort to use computer graphics to render a guy in a super hero costume leaping between buildings.

So there you go. Now for some breakfast...

How much are HMV selling the Jackie Chan DVD`s for

Sorry, didn`t mean to cause offence! I`ve got a large number of JC`s movies on DVD, including a lot of the really bad early ones (`Spiritual Kung Fu`, `The Master with Cracked Fingers` etc). However, no way would I pay 20 quid for one of them!

They vary in price between 4.99 and 8.99.

Incidentally, if you`re into martial arts stuff, they had the Once Upon a Time in China series in the Hong Kong Legends editions at 9.99 apiece.

Note this is at the Worcester branch - I can`t guarantee it`ll be the same for oher branches of hte store!

No offence caused, Kang!

Just saying. I have a "Master with Cracked Fingers" too and other such titles (Sammo Hung`s "Magnificent Butcher" - chuckle).

Admittedly, I would pay no more than a tenner for these. But a tenner seems good value. One of the better ones was "Legend of the Drunken Master". I recommend that one...

Yep, picked up a second hand copy of the Hong Kong Legends edition of Drunken Master from a market stall for 7.99 - I agree, it`s good.

Have you seen the DDD House site?

http://www.dddhouse.com/

Loads of JC (some not available in the West) and other martial arts films and dirt cheap. Okay, you usually get b-all extras, but as most discs are 5-9 quid, who`s complaining? The one warning is that *some* discs are R3 encoded - my player can hack them, but it requires some button pressing (it only plays R0, 1 and 2 automatically). However, this is a small worry and the majority of discs are R0 anyway. I know this is stating the bleedin` obvious, but also check that English is available as a dubbed track or subtitles - once in a blue moon it isn`t.

I haven`t seen that site. I`ll have a look when I get home tho`, cheers.

I also use under18.org (now called DVDSplash, or some such, havent been there in a while). AFAIK, they started the whole "Hong Kong legends bargain bucket" thingy.

And as for region coding, well, I play my discs through my PC cos I have it set up in the living room hooked up to the telly. Also, I can speak Cantonese, so I don`t need subtitles. ;-)

Today they were putting out the stock for their latest BOGOF extravaganza, which included such double disc wonders as: Wicker Man; Raging Bull; Holy Grail; Terminator and Silence of the Lambs (rot-free??) plus all of the Woody Allens and Kubricks (probably).
