Thanks for the tip, this set looks very tempting. Trying to weigh up plasma or rear projection to replace my current 32 inch CRT. Thinking now that I cannot justify 3 grand on a low end plasma when I can get a cracking set like this for 1200 GBP.
Moviemonsteruk, can you answer the following as cannot find on Sony site :
1) Can you get a stand for this to locate amp / sky box etc.
2) How thick is the top of the screen ? I have a Linn centrik centre speaker and it is a big beast. Currently located in cabinet below TV, but not an option with this set (?) and I cannot mount it on the wall or it will be 2 feet behind the screen.
Any advice / help appreciated.
*** Okay, now found other link for centre speaker stand for top off TV, so number two is solved.
As for number one, I could locate the amp / dvd / sky box in another part of the room, but would then have to run ariel and two scart leads approx. 5 metres. Will doing so affect performance if good quality scart leads are used ? Also need to extend sky cable - is this just co-ax ?

oh my god, it`s huge (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 2nd September 2003, 13:11

Be reasonable - yes there are quite a few negative comments, but there are also some glowing reports as well.

And after all, more people are going to write a review when things go wrong than when things go right.

I have always had good goods and services from Empire Direct - they aren`t a perfect retailer but as an example the fact that I couldn`t have my chosen speakers in beech, they had to be ash was a small price to pay for the fact that they had 45% off any other price I could find.

What do you want, blood? ;)

This man blows goats. I have proof....

You can buy the add - on side cabinets that go with the tv . But they are quite expensive and in my opinion make the tv look ugly . As for using 5m good quality scart leads then I can`t see a problem with using them . To extend the sky satelite input cable from the dish you can buy tv coax cable plus a pack of two sky connector`s and adapter from B&Q for a couple of quid . Just fit the two connector`s to each end of your new piece of coax and connect one end to the digi box and the other end join to the existing cable with the adapter . Buy this tv you won`t regret it .

Makro are selling a Toshiba 42" for £699 + vat from tomorrow morning. Worth a punt I reckon if you don`t mind rear projection sets.Of course you have to have a card, or know someone who has one. Roger.

Been having a look at the weekend with the missus, looks like a 40inch is the biggest she will go for :-(
Saw a Thomson 40KW611S, 999gbp in dixons, 899gbp in Powerhouse. Pitty because you can get the 44 inch version on line for 999gbp.
Anyone have any experience or reviews of this set ?
