According to SVP`s site, it doesn`t look like it`s the same drive. However, it`s probably just as good a drive as the Pioneer, and its RPC-1 (region-free) flashable which AFAIK the Pioneer ain`t.

My mate bought this about 6 weeks ago and it was £80 then. He has had no problems at all with it - think I might get one!!

Well I was going to go for the Pioneer 107 but this looks as good. Reviews on ebuyer are excellent.

Any idea what is the best media for value and reliability with this drive and any good links to newbie DVD copying would be useful. What software would I need?

Thanks

Sam.

At this price I would recommend this writer very much
AFAIK the NEC dvdwriter uses the same chip (or something) as pioneer 107
so at £60 it is an absolute bargain
it is faster in burning CD than pioneer does
through firmware upgrade you can make it multi region

as for DVD-Rs
I`ve used Bulkpaq Orange (princo dye) and some G04 ritek DVD-r all works fine at 4x
they are not compatible with Mirror DVDs though
sorry no experience burning DVD+R
and dont have the money to buy 8x DVD-R

cokie enjoy

In my experience these discs are cheap for a reason.. they`re pretty crap..
Even if you manage to burn on them, quite a few players don`t like them.
Stick them through DVDInfoPro and they have loads of errors.
Stick with decent discs like the ones with the Ritek G04 dye and you won`t go far wrong..

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

as long as my player works with them, I`m happy :D
its cheap, what more you want to say?

but I myself are using ritek g04 ATM, mostly since 25 tub bulkpaqs are only £3 cheaper than Riteks now ;)

I`m relatively new to this DVD burning, but i`ve been using Datawrite Yellows (DVD-R 4x)
and have`nt had one single coaster (apart from when p*****g about with the re-authoring
of a disk, and that was my fault)

25 disks for £13...not too bad

I bought one of these writers when it first came out through EBuyer along with 25 datawrite yellows and all perfect.

Not a single coaster by the writer yet and now done about 50 backups.

The writer is almost silent in operation and came with the latest firmware which I think was 1.06.

Buy it and you will not be disappointed, reviews on dvdhelp site rated it at 9.4/10 after about 80 reviews and another site went on to say it had the best writing capabilities on any disc of any writer they had tested.
