RE: Wii... playing games off Hard drive?

I tried a couple of drives, an Iomega 500gb and 1TB drive, both did not work. Ended up going for a Western Digital MyBook 500GB (£55 from PCWorld) that I read worked on another forum. I can confirm that it works excellently and also the Wii powers it on and off.

RE: freeview recorders

Not sure how to help as I only had the box for 1 day as they supplied me with the HDR081, not the HDR082.

I really wanted dual recording and series link and this does not do the series link. Was thinking about the Digihome or Thomson ones as they seem to do what I want.

RE: sky broadband

Yep I have Sky and access my work through a VPN no problem.

RE: sky broadband

You don`t have to take their phone service although if you do you still pay BT for the rental and can get free evening and weekend calls free with Sky.

RE: saving online video

The new version of Free Download Manager has the ability to download online video. I have not tried it yet but you can get it from http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/.

RE: www.kenable.co.uk

Yeah, I found these guys on ebay and are cheap for decent cables

RE: Bargain 32

Bummer it`s now £450 - shouldn`t have hesitated!

RE: Where is hot in December?

Cuba - I went to Varadero a couple of years back in December and it was hot.

RE: BT Yahoo

I had 3 months of that with BT while they were trying to fix it. I even emailed the Chief Executive of BT (oecc[at]moc.tb) and his assistant was dealing with my case which never got sorted. I had engineers out who said the line was fine but the connection was probably being throttled by the ISP. I ended up leaving and getting 6 months refunded. I am now with Sky and have never looked back. BT in my opinion were absolutely useless and their call centre - well don`t get me started, how many times was I told to delete my temporary internet files.

It`s hard to recommend anyone though as most ISP`s have people who have problems. You should try and check out the forums on ThinkBroadband.com as there are forums about each ISP.

RE: 24 - Series 5 (The last series shown) half price

Nice one - just ordered, got Season 5 for £16.15

RE: Total I-Pod virgin needs help (please!)...

Here`s some infor for you.

1. Various prices depending on what make / model / size you go for
2. Depends on the size, a single track is somwhere between 5-10mb depending on quality
3. You can download using newsgroups or P2P. An iPod uses iTunes software (free from Apple website) to transfer the music.
4. Depends on who creates the MP3`s. I use Music Match jukebox to transfer from my CD`s and it names them really well. Some of the ones I have downloaded I had to rename them using software like Tag and Rename.
5. I transferred some stuff from LP`s and cassettes by converting them to MP3 using Music Match jukebox and using a cable from my hi-fi headphone to the line in on ym sound card.

Hope this helps

RE: skiwear4less.com

Skis
Boots

Been looking for since last year when I went to Glencoe (2 hour drive) then stood in a queue for ski hire for 2 hours only to be told there were none left, then another 2 hour drive home. It was a complete waste of time.

I`ll be OK next time though!

RE: skiwear4less.com

Just bought Skis, boots and poles from them at the weekend, they were in Perth at St Johnstone FC.

Good quality and value.

RE: Internet doing freaky things - can someone explain this?

I got that aswell - never mentioned it though as I thought I was going daft!

RE: Watching anamorphic movies/stuff on Windows Media Player....

VLC is excellent.

1. A way to do it is right click the file you want to open then choose open with. Click browse and browse to where VLC is stored. Check the "always use the selected program to open this kind of file.

RE: HEATWAVE!!! Noooooooooooooooooo!

Heatwave - it`s been blooming raining here (just outside Edinburgh) for days now.

RE: RIP DAD (Alfred Cooper 1931-2006)

Yep, sorry to hear the news, my thoughts are with you.

RE: Anyone been to Cuba or Jamaica before?

I stayed in Sandals Royal Hicacos in Varadero in December 2004 and it was great! Sandals just opened a new hotel up the road when we were there, it`s called Princesa Del Mar and it is fantastic - we managed to blag our way in when we were there. I`d love to go back and stay at that hotel as it is seriously smart.

To be honest there is not much in Varadero itself and reckon that you`d be best to get a decent all inclusive hotel like Sandals. The food, drink, etc were all top quality and the rooms were really smart.

We went to Havana and it was well worth seeing, especially the old women smoking the cigars!!

I`ve got loads of photos if you want to see them, just let me know.

RE: Yipee 6.5 meg broadband

I upgraded to ADSL Max on 19 April and was getting seriously bad speeds. Reverted back to 2mb yesterday - much better!

Oh and BT technical support - what a joke.

EDIT: Forgot to say, check out the forums on ADSL Guide as they are full of people with problems.

RE: Are these the cheapest Memory Stick Pro Duo?

Me neither. Mine has been fine and it`s more or less always got about 1.5gb on it.

RE: Getting married abroad - help*

I got married at Moon Palace in Cancun, Mexico, it was excellent. Check out the website here

If you need to know anything - just ask.

RE: Creating Home Network problem

You checked your firewall? I had a problem with Norton not letting my pc speak to my laptop. Turn it off for a few minutes and try it again.

RE: Are these the cheapest Memory Stick Pro Duo?

Quote:
Did it come with the official Sony warranty card? Mine didn`t.

i don`t think it did. I`ve got iver 1.5gb on mine and it seems fine. Strange

RE: Are these the cheapest Memory Stick Pro Duo?

I got mine from this auction and it seems to work OK.

Anyone know if it`s a fake as it seems to work fine?

RE: reault clio air bag?

There`s a de-activation thing that uses the ignition key, it`s next to the electric windows on my Clio - not sure what year they brought that in.

RE: The

Wow - what an episode.

SPOILER:
Can`t believe that Heller is dead - that was a shock. I wonder if he was in the car and whether Robocop was right in that he could survive in an air pocket?

RE: Prison Break

Quote:
Great episode! (1. I think I`ll wait until the real Ep19 comes out.

I couldn`t - but then again I wished I had cause now I need to wait 2 weeks unless they leak another episode!

RE: probs using yahoo messenger - security risk

Your "friend" is having you on - do not listen to him / her, they are talking pants. As Mike says, a firewall is a very good idea though.

RE: Converting dvd`s to mp4: miscellaneous dumb questions

Generally about 4GB at MPEG4

But not for iPod / PSP resolution though.

I use PSP Movie Creator and an episode of 24 or Lost can be reduced to about 100 mb and still be good quality. Films can generally be about 300mb and still be very good quality. Remember it aint no 32 inch screen!

I`ve currently got about 8 films on my 2gb Pro Duo card for my PSP and they are all perfect quality (or as perfect as they can be for the size of the screen)
