NTL broadband free Xbox offer & price cuts
New NTL broadband customers can get an Xbox console, Midtown Madness 3 game and Xbox Live Starter Kit for free when they subscribe to the 600kb or 1mb service with Xbox live added on.
Pay the following:
£50 installation fee
£24.99 (for 600kb) or £37.99 (1mb) per month.
I think a surcharge of £2/month applies if you want the Xbox Live service to continue after the free trial they give you.
Minimum contract is one year with this offer.
Existing customers are ineligible but if you know someone who is subscribing, get them to quote your account number when signing up and after they have been paying their bills for three months you will be credited with £30.
Existing customers should also demand the following, which I got today after threatening to cancel - instead of paying £24.99 a month for 600kb, get 750kb for £19.99. In other words, get a faster connection for a fiver less.
From August 1,NTL are increasing their connection speeds but it will be phased in and a representative from the cancellations department told me today that at first, it will ONLY be given to customers who ask.
I`m not sure whether the £5 price cut will apply to everyone or just pushy people like me. :D
Good luck!

RE: NTL broadband free Xbox offer & price cuts
EDIT: This is NOT a further increase. Sorry, Robert - I was in a hurry earlier and misread your post.
If you are trying to sign up for the free Xbox offer and the sales person says they know nothing about it, tell them to ask their supervisor and do not let up until they give in. It took me a while to find anyone at NTL who knew about this offer but perseverence will be rewarded.

RE: NTL broadband free Xbox offer & price cuts
Sounds too good to be true! Wonder if I should cancel my pipex connection and go with NTL. I already have a phone line with them so would I have to pay any connection fees?
Can someone also provide me with a contact number so I can enquire about this offer?
Cheers,
G
RE: NTL broadband free Xbox offer & price cuts
The fact you have a phone line with NTL is irrelevant, as the broadband is a separate entity all together - you have a direct link from your brown box outside your house to the pipe - it`s not via the phone line.
The XBox deal is all well andgood, but you have to pay for installation at £50, so they recoup their money that way.
On the speed increases, NTL have said that 150K/600K/1MB increase from 1st August onwards for existing cable model owners, and a bit later for those with set top box modems as you may need a new box.

RE: NTL broadband free Xbox offer & price cuts
Do you have to be in a cabled area to take advantage of this or do they use the normal BT line?
RE: NTL broadband free Xbox offer & price cuts
You need to be in an NTL cabled area - as mentioned in my post above, NTL broadband does not use phone lines, it uses independent fibre-optic cable.
