Auction Bargains

daveo (Competent) posted this on Friday, 30th March 2001, 11:58

Has anyone had any good/bad experiences of buying DVDs from sellers on eBay auctions and Yahoo Auctions.

I occasionally look at the auctions just coming to a close and assuming the DVDs are authentic there are some real bargains. I recently got R1 Platoon for £10.

Obviously you have to be really careful and try and buy from respected sellers but it`s another good place to look.

I buy quite often form ebay and qxl. Never had any problems with dvd`s that where "new" or "sealed". Some of them are infact from shops that just sell through auctions (especially at QXL). For example i bought the new Seven 2 disk set for £11 at qxl. Musicbox.cd had 50 on auction.
I have also bought about 10 used dvd`s. Only one had a problem (it would only play half the movie) but i emailed the seller and he gave me my money back immediately.
I think auctions are a good way of getting dvd`s cheaply. People manage to get dvd`s at very good prices in all sort of ways and want to make money out of it. Everybody ains. For example, if you read that you can buy mickey blue eyes for £4.99 in one of my previous listings you could re-sell it at ebay for £8-10 at ebay. It is still cheap and everyone is happy!
I believe that auctions is a sort of arbitrage because not everybody knows of great sites like this one. So my advise is if you see something cheap buy it. Stick to the new ones to be sure. Justbe carefull not to be carried away bidding and watch out for p&p costs.

I buy and sell a lot of stuff on Yahoo. Have got Jaws R2 for £9 & Godzilla for £10, sold Lock Stock non-directors cut for £9. Basically make sure it`s a private person selling stuff they don`t want anymore, they are the only bargains online. I ended up with a Jap copy of Taxi 2 in a blank box the other day. Got the money back, so not all bad I suppose !
