Very cheap Mini USB webcam

Scramble (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 1st October 2004, 17:25

My turn to repay the many bargains I have had from this site .....

ASDA are selling a "USB LAPTOP MINI CAMERA" for £3.74 !

Stated resolution of 640 X 480 and 30fps, I`m dubious about that though.
It is about the size of a 50p and needs no power supply.
It comes with some good capture software and motion detection / timelapse software.
Even has a nice blue LED on the front to show it is switched on.

And yes, it does work OK on a PC.

i might be dim... but how do you talk to someone at the other end???
I was thinking at that price i could get one for my mum as well, then instead of ringing her i could talk to her and see her at the same time?

Many thanks, a `computer-thickie`.

oh right... got one with the pc about 5 years ago to work with viavoice! I didn`t know if you had to link to somebody else via like a chatroom, but do it in a private chat?

Presume you do it by sending an email to their address, and presumably that opens the link???

I am sure somebody out there will be able to put me right! :D

Most instant message programs now carry webcam capability.

AOL 9 does, Yahoo`s done it for years and I think MSN too.

Sounds like a decent price. I saw these in ASDA about 4 months ago and I am sure they were priced at around £16. I could be wrong but I attributed the high price to their size and laptop friendliness. Can anyone confirm the massive price drop?

Sheeesh, at £3 would be easier to buy one and find out!

Yes, the discounted price is correct, well it was last friday when i bought the last 2 off the shelf @ ASDA `Croydon`. This offer was posted on the forums at moneysavingexpert.com a while ago.

NB: "The price was Not Marked on the shelf"
