With prices of iPod products very tightly controlled any significant discount that can be obtained is usually well sought after.

Well, by buying from an unlikely source, adding an additional purchase to your basket to reach a particular discount threshold and applying a discount code you can get up to £20 off an iPod Shuffle (£15 off the 512MB and £20 off the 1GB).

The 512MB iPod Shuffle can be obtained for only £57.39 (including £2.40 for delivery) by adding an additional purchase to the value of £10.01 or more and applying the discount code RZ8076 for £15 off. If you don`t wish to make an additional purchase, you can still purchase this item for £62.39 including delivery by applying the discount code UZ6289 for £10 off. To be honest though, even at HMV`s prices it`s well worth spending the extra £10.01 to get another £5 off.

The 1MB iPod Shuffle can be obtained for only £82.39 (including £2.40 for delivery) by adding ANY item to your basket and applying the discount code PZ2867 for £20 off. Annoyingly, this item is priced only 1p below the minimum purchase threshold for a £20 discount - However, to obtain the additional £5 discount, you need only purchase a CD single with prices starting from as little as 99p.

One word of warning though...the above mentioned discount codes were specifically issued for the Christmas period. Amazingly enough, they still work. However, I don`t expect them to work for too much longer.

Sorry - just noticed that my CD Singles link above doesn`t work.

Your best bet is to search on a single letter and then sort by price (lowest first). There are a handful of 99p bargains to be found that way. However, their search engines insist on searching by full word only (i.e. not just words "containing" the letter you specify). If I find a better way to search their entire catalogue I`ll report back.

Has anyone actually recieved their Ipod (recently) using these xmas promotion codes?
I ordered an Ipod shuffle and cheap CD single got my £20 off and entered my card details. This was done on Monday and since entering the order - that status has not changed. it still reads `Order Not Yet Proccessed`. I then noticed on the HMV Website a Terms and Conditions page ( http://www1.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/navigate.do?ctx=100;-1;-1;-1&pPageID=1129 ) which mentions "Offer excludes.... and all non-games hardware..." So im not sure whether this will `slip through the net` or will get picked by someone. On the plus side the vouchers are still valid and will be until 31st March 2005. Let us know if anyone has had any succsess and I`ll keep this updated if it arrives - or doesnt!

From reading other discussions on the web, it seems that these discounts aren`t supposed to be valid on hardware purchases and HMV have cancelled other DS orders that some people have placed using these discount codes - however, the fact that there is a single included in the purchase may well be sufficient for the order to pass under their radar.

Order still shows as being with the suppliers on the order page. They also still have the iPod Shuffle listed on their site. So dunno what that means!

If I don`t get it, fine - but will be interested to see what I get charged for the 2 CDs they`ve already shipped to me...

Update: 14 March 2005. iPod Shuffle no longer available on HMV website. My order still says it`s with the suppliers, but not holding my breath.

Not worth the effort, IMHO. The Shuffle is cheap for an Apple, but poorly specified by comparison with just about every other flash MP3 player, unless you really want one with no display, EQ, radio or playlist! If size is really important, wait for the new Sony:
