tesco newport selling a 7" screen portable dvd player for £119.99....no memory of brand...damn my short term memory..... but looked pretty dinky and ok quality build. also have an acer laptop, ok-ish spec (512mb ram for the money is good, but i`m not sure that it had a dvd burner, deffo a cd burner. looked liek a centrino mobile chip at 1.4ghz, ie wireless on board) price £680 or thereabouts.

was it any of these?
I might take a trip over tomorrow, my local one is about a 20min drive. If i find the dvd player i`ll try and take a photo with my phone or something to jog my memory of model when i come back + post the model/make here..

Just got back in from my tescos... couldn`t find it anywhere, saw some pc`s for £498.98 but no portable dvd players :(

Can`t even find an image of it online, the model is Technika DVD-300 (i found through google).

just found a Multi-Region Hack for it too, here in the hacks forum :)

They had about 50 at the Tesco Superstore in Peterborough last night. They were generating strong interest even though, at the time, there was no big "Super Duper Bargain" banner near them.

There was a few of the cheap laptops too but, to me, they did not look any better or worse than the usual Lidl fare.

Do you know if the portable DVD players had a battery, or were they just relying on mains or car adaptor ?, could do with one of these but need it to be completely portable.

Thanks

Mart

What about this Goodmans portable DVD for £129.99 at Argos and if you buy before 26/03/05 you will get a £10 Gift Voucher back.
Complete with Mains Adaptor , Car Adaptor and Rechargeable Battery carry bag and earphones (two pairs) , so pretty well all options covered then :)
Plus there is a Multi-Region Hack on this site which should work.

Worth doing `Click and Reserve` before you do , just to make sure it is in stock and save a wasted journey.
I got one of these myself today and my initial impression is very good. Screen is good , picture great , sound through speakers good enough for a portable and very good (if a little low for my liking) through the headphones. The unit allows for 2 pairs of headphones to be connected at the same time. Also the speakers are situated in the top corners of the bottom half of the player , rather than at the side of the screen as on many players , meaning that the overall size is not that much greater than the size of the screen itself.
I got the multi region hack described on this site to work after a little amendment (which I have posted in the Region Hacks forum here)
