RM`s URL hints and tips. Trick number 3792b:

Remove the unnecessary parts of the URL to make it (a) more readable (b) more persistent.

Try the following:
www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?product_uid=84815

Not sure what the "actionid" field in the Ebuyer URL is for but the page comes up perfectly okay without it. A similar trick makes any DSG (Dixons/Currys/PC World/The Link) URL very simple to display on usenet and forums such this. e.g.

<http://www.thelink.com/martprd/store/lin_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0079454346.1112548806@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccgaddefgdehfjcflgceggdhhmdgmi.0&page=Product&sku=981920&fm=0&sm=1&tm=undefined>

becomes

http://www.thelink.co.uk/product.php?sku=981920

and it never expires as the time-limited session information is no longer used.

P.S. You can compile a URL for ANY DSG product page simply by (a) replacing the domain e.g. www.thelink.co.uk, www.currys.co.uk etc... (b) cutting and pasting the product code into the sku field (the product code is displayed clearly in the top left corner of the product page. What`s more, as all DSG sites tend to sell a wide range of identical products, just replacing the domain is usually sufficient to find the same product as, where their product ranges overlap, the SKU codes are identical on all DSG sites.

Could you use this device to some how store directions from a map software programme such as multimap/autoroute so that you could use in the car as a kind of route finder (store info as a txt file for example?).

for 69 quid more you could have a pda gps which would do it for real...

As for this PVR, it`s very limited in what it plays. It can`t play divx really (it recodes it). All divx files on the net have mp3 sound nearly. This won`t play any of them.

This also means the sound with video is either rubbish or takes up loads and loads of space. For example you`ll find a crappy quality video recorded with it will be 4X the size of one encoded on a PC in divx with mp3 sound.

Personally I`d pay the extra 60 quid or so for an archos gmini400. Actually I did :-) Had one for 6 months now. different league really.

Is this coming from personal experience or are these the views of Nostradamus?

personal experience of similar ones (before I went for archos). reading the in depth specification will confirm it.
