Nice idea, but you`re still eligible for import duty, which will probably be around £40 all in. Taking this into account, it`s about the same price as the UK one will be. Also, buying from the UK gives you better protection against dead pixels - if you buy it here, then Sony or your retailer are likely to replace it - if you grey-import it, you won`t want to courier it back to the far east, and Sony will tell you where you can stick your dead pixels....

All said, though, it`s a fantastic piece of kit, and the video playback is as good as any portable DVD i`ve seen;.

For info, if you pre-order it in Argos, you get £100 worth of vouchers - although I suspect they`ll be of the "save £10 on a £50 spend" variety

Try gadget-asia.com. It seems that they will re-imburse any customs fees and it is only £134!! I keep thinking about getting one then decide wait until the UK launch...hmmm

Bear in mind that lik-sang has pretty poor customer service. If something is wrong with the product, you will have to pay recorded delivery back to Asia, for which you will not be reimbursed

I am pretty sure that Sony have said that dead pixels are not covered by the warrenty so if anyone is going to give you a replacement it will be the company so I would suggest going with a UK based company who will check for dead pixels first like Movietyme.

Sony are vague on the dead pixels issue - they say if there`s an "unacceptable" number they`ll replace, but who knows if it`s your definition of unacceptable, or Sony`s? Personally, I`d agree with going somewhere that will replace - such as Argos, who will take it back within 16 days regardless

If you get it from Game you have a 12 month garantee with them not Sony so you just take it back to the store and they`ll swap it over for a new one. When the DS came out we had a lot of returns due to dead pixels and swaped them over.

From what Ive read dead pixels seem to be something Nintendo and Sony are handling differently - whereas Nintendo seem to say

"Gee, were really sorry that machine had dead pixels, here have another one"

Sony seem to say

"Hey what can you do? LCD screens have dead pixels all the time, just get over it".

Unfortunately this will filter down to the stores who will have to enforce the policy of the manufacturer (Game certainly wont take backa PSP with dead pixels knowin that Sony wont re-emburse them as Sony dont cover dead pixels unless they are extremely bad).

That said Ive had my PSP for about 6 months now and it arrived from Japan with 2 dead pixels - both in the bottom left of the screen. They`re only noticable on a black background and only if you really look carefully. Ive never noticed them while playing a game or watching a movie.

Dont want to cause alarm but they dont always want customs paid at the door, you could recieve a letter a few weeks from now asking for the £35/40, just hope you dont.
