RE: 5.1 DIVX DVD Player - £32.99 at Aldi
Hi there
I was looking for a cheap DivX player for bedroom, so I bought this - so far so good.
Comparatively solid build, decent remote - lousy instruction manual. I thought I knew a bit about these things, but may have to phone helpline for setup queries, it makes no sense.
Plays DivX files I`ve tried so far fine, XviD (unpacked bitstream) fine, I don`t have any packed bitstream to try as they play back jerkily on my other player. Also plays mp3s burnt onto DVD, not sure about wma.
Only problem is fluorescent blue light behind the tray, which stays on all the time as far as I can make out! If you can put up with this then so far, for £33, it seems like a really good buy.
Lacks optical digital out, but I guess u can`t have everything, has component video output.
Hope this is of some help.

Well I gave it a go while in the ALDI this afternoon and have to say on first impressions its not a bad little player, first thing I tried were the disks Ive had playback problems with (I never got around to exchanging my hellraiser box so was pleased to find it plays with no problems on this player). It took a bit of searching around the menu`s to set up the 5.1 as the instructions could be a lot better, the DivX is a real bonus as I can watch all my downloaded episodes of time gentlemen please on the telly at last :). My previous player had an annoying `crackling` audio problem with some disks (such as my reg 1 Bubba Ho Tep) but that also played fine so, so far Im a happy bunny

Bought one of these today and was well pleased with it playing an Xvid burnt as data. I`m no expert on these things but so far so good with playing diff types of DVDR (+ - and DVDRW).
Haven`t quite had a good play with it yet, but the 5.1 setup was a pain and it`s not multi-region, but for 33 quid I`m happy! .

....and so is mine! (:¦
Silly me for taking heed of the manual (page 14). I tried regions 1,2,4 with no problems - thanks for pointing it out.

I bought one of these as well! Never had a divx player so don`t really have anything to compare this to but it seems a good little player!
Can anyone answer a question I have though?
The front of the manual says its a TEVION QS808.
Now I have checked all over the `net and I can`t find any player called this.
Does anyone know the proper make and model of this?
I`m interested cos I wanna look for any firmware updates that may be available
Can anyone help?

I got this player today. Tested +/- DVDR and worked great even the cheap nasty ones. I think the player looks smart and dont agree with the above post about the blue light on the loading tray *its cool* . Tested around 15 movies various divx/xvid and a couple of raw mpegs played all perfect except for 1 with no sound.
As someone stated the manual aint that great. To be honest you dont need a manual to use this "or any other"
The firmware question i think you are best to leave well alone unless it starts playing up. If it aint broke dont fix it. And has anyone else noticed that the buttons on the remote look a bit glow in the dark?

Can you tell me how to set this up for 5:1 audio.
I`m baffled by the menu system.
Cheers.
It`s OK. I`ve sussed it.
