I would agree with that. Very small cameras can be difficult to hold steady, but Lumix cameras nearly all have image stabilisation, which is well worth having. A good price for a nice piece of kit. Good movie mode, too.

Review here: www.steves-digicams.com/2005_reviews/fx9.html

Also worth considering is the Fuji F10, currently available from Amazon for £150. This has excellent low-light capability (rare in a compact camera) so will take pictures where you couldn`t sensibly use a flash.

Based on that review and what people have said on other forums I finally caved.

Couldn`t resist at that price and been putting off buying a digital camera for far too long.

Looks like a good little camera, I`d be tempted myself if I hadn`t recently got a Fuji S5600. But this one is a nice pocketable size for your hols. The only thing that would put me off at first it it using a special battery, and only 1150Mah, as I like ones that take standard AAs which you get in high capacity NiMHs now, I current use 2600Mah ones in mine. The higher the Mah figure, the longer they last between charges, more photos, more zoom and flash use.

But having a scout on the net I found the site below doing a replacement battery for that camera for £9, so might be worth getting one or two so you always have one charged to swap to for that price.

Spare battery.

So battery issues solved, it sounds like a good buy, especially as most other sites still have it well over £200 :)

EDIT:
Just found 7dayshop even cheaper for a spare battery at £5, chuck in a cheap 1gb SD card too for around £16 in case you want to shoot video with it...good quality vid too, looking at the clip (8mb) on Steves Digicams.

I`ve been to Comet this evening for a look, and couldn`t resist when I saw it. Very small, neat camera, will be an ideal pocket camera for our holidays, save carrying the Fuji about everywhere.

Good looking metal casing too, and a very large 2.5" screen. Lots of features are like on my bigger Fuji, only main difference is lower ISO rating, and lower optical zoom at 3x instead of 10x. But 3x is pretty much standard for compact cameras anyway. Battery charged in about an hour and a half, I`m going to get one of those from 7dayshop as a spare, and probably the 1gb memory card.

Strange thing was they had the older model for £30 more, work that one out...lol :)

Thanks to Tom for pointing us to this bargain. :)

Hi, I saw this offer at Comet too, but the thing I noticed was, when I read the specifications, it says that there is no movie mode. Now I`ve read a lot about this particular Panasonic DMC FX9 camera, and it is supposed to have a movie mode with sound.

To those who purchased this camera, from Comet`s website, does your movie mode work? Since its a half price tag, I`m hoping nothing fishy is going on!

Thank you.

Yes, I can confirm it has movie mode, two choices of quality, the highest is 640x480 @30fps, plays back on TV just like it was off a proper camcorder. Although don`t expect to be able to record long movies like a camcorder would, it`s more just for short clips, as it uses a lot of memory at the highest setting, but handy if you don`t want to cart a camcorder round with you too, or turn the quality down to the lower one if it`s for web use and you`ll fit loads more on.

My new 1gb memory card has just come for it this morning, and it`s showing it can fit 11 and a half mins of video at highest setting, or 600+ photos. I got it as a pocket sized back up camera for my main one, but no reason why it couldn`t be used as a main camera too, very good piece of kit for the price...the screen is very large, especially on such a small camera (it`s just slightly bigger than a 10 pack of cigarettes).

EDIT:
By the way, if anyone wants a case for these cameras, I got a nice leather HAMA case that fits perfectly for £9.99 from the photography counter in ASDA. It`s the larger of the two they stock.

But can anyone recommend a camera case for it? Would appreciate any help.
