The Garmin Street Pilot i3 is superb ...and cheap at only £129.99. You can upload speed cameras from PocketGPSworld.com for which they charge, but only £2. These bleep and show you the camera position if you are going too fast and simply flash a warning that the camera is approaching if you are not going too fast.

They come loaded with up to date UK maps and very basic european maps so you would need to buy a transflash card with the relevant euro map.

The only thing it doesn`t do is pick up traffic reports/problems but it does re route very quickly if you take a wrong turn.

Have a look at www.pocketGPSworld.com. There are some really useful good forums.

I am a satisfied customer - oh and don`t work for Garmin!

Hope this helps.

Hey LCR, how does this work ? Does it give you commands like "turn left" "right" etc, i ask this because looking at a screen while yr driving must be dangerous, appreciate you lettin me know cos im a novice (obviously!!)at this game too. :)

Yep - it does all of that. It easy to look at the screen while driving even though it is a reasonably small size. It has a 3D display. The voice instructions are clear and warn you before a turning (will also tell you how far it is) and when you get to it. For example it will say "turn left in point 1 mile" and then when you are almost there it waill say "turn left".

For the price these really are superb little units. They are really easy to use and you can preset desinations which you save as favourites. That way once you reach where you are going you simply select "Home" on your favourites and it ..er directs you home.

It also has points of interest, including takeaways, petrol stations, cash machines etc. Basically it will tell you the nearest ones and the distance.

Please feel free to ask anything else you`re not sure of.

I bought a Garmin 3i about nine months ago and thought it was a bargain when I paid £175 for it. I wondered if I was just buying another toy but have used it again and again. I can`t fault it.

£129.99 at Comet. Probably a good price as they seem to be going for around £150 on Ebay...

I travel in Spain a lot, sometimes in France. How can I get the relevant maps etc & how much would they cost?
