CHEAP SAT NAV - NAVMAN ICN 330 FOR £100

Harry_Potter (Competent) posted this on Friday, 6th October 2006, 10:05

Hi All,

I am not a personal fan of this device, doesn`t appear that user friendly to me. Customers on the site have given it a review of 8/10, and £100 is cheap for a sat nav unit. Is this one for you?

Thanks,

Chris :)

This is also available at Staples for £99.99 to pick up in store. I have had mine for a couple of days and only used it on journeys that I knew. It `knows` about a new by-pass in my area and seems a good deal to me. Read the reviews though, some have found it too quiet. In my view, you can`t argue with it at this price!

I have an older one of those. It can find by post code, street name and area. It works but can be slow picking up a signal. that may be down to my heated windscreen though. I assume they are the same sort of thing.

We have one of these and in my experience it is the loudest of all the GPS systems we have tested. On the whole, I am `usually` quite happy with it but it does have some major drawbacks. Off the top of my head:

Maps not user upgradeable (you can buy maps on memory cards from Navman for megabucks but they are 18 months out of date and customer service have no idea when (or even if) they will update the UK map for this series. >:(

Despite it having toggles to `avoid` or `notify` of toll roads en-route this feature has never worked for us, not even on big tollways like M6 toll. >:(

Limited number of Points Of Interest. Car parks and ferryports...yes! Hotels, cashmachines, theatres etc...no! >:(

You can`t save your current location as a favourite. You have to search for the road in the database before you can add it. >:(

Most annoying of all, you can follow a route to the letter and be sitting at a junction waiting for the lights to change. Suddenly it flashes `?`, gets confused and re-routes you in a different direction before changing its mind again and sending you back to the junction to go through the whole process again. This happens a lot, especially in certain cities `Oxford is a no-no` and no, we are not talking about pedestrianised areas here. That is another kettle of fish. >:( >:( >:(

My verdict: at £100 or less, it is one of the better options. Nice and loud (especially when compared to the Sony systems) with built in rechargeables and small enough to slip in your pocket or bag. There are better and more reliable systems out there but not at this price.

Hope this helps.

I use the tom tom 300 at work in Emergency Services. Cracking device and updates instantly even when driving at high speed.

Appears shops only sell the newer models now.

A site for GPS devices new and recon, also for the download for camera locations go to:-

I got the wife one of these but had to take it back as it struggles with getting a signal in some of the cars with heated front windows. Has to be exactly next to the gap that is somewhere in the screen. Got a Tom Tom now and its king

Should have gone for the V2 @ £159 that was much cheapness!

Well, after seeing this thread last week, I bought one of these for myself, and it came on Monday. The reason I went for it was that my hubby has a Navman, but it is the top of the range with the big screen, remote control, and those 2 instant find garage and find parking buttons on the front.

I have to say that rayhigh made a lot of accurate comments about it up above. No USB connection to download any upgrades, a total lack of POI`s (which surpirsed me as my hubby`s is loaded with them!), no touchscreen , which also surprised me (I thought they all had that), and there is a distinct lack of set up features. Extremely basic.

Having said that, I don`t have a heated screen in my Vectra, so it picks up a strong signal, and it is nice & loud, so I can still hear it over the car CD player. For my domestic needs, it is more than adequate, and for £100, I`m very pleased.

Thanks for putting it on here! :)
