Well thats your opinion and I doubt you`re speaking from experience.
I`m actually upgrading from the 50" Sony KDFE50A12, which I`ve had almost 18 months (cost £1200 then). I`ve been very pleased with it, but this 55" is even better.
It out performs many lcd`s and plasmas and has a contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and a response time of 2.5ms.
Only 2 left now.

Could be worth trying you nearest JL store - it`s the same price in store.
I`ve just returned from Currys at my local retail park where it was being fed a HD signal - the picture was awsome! The price not so (£1499).

Experience? maybe? maybe not? but having recently bought a new Panasonic Plasma I feel a little spoilt. Rear Pro? watch from the middle/front, def not from the side!

We have had a rear projection DLP set for nearly 3 years and the horizontal viewing angle is about the same as a modern LCD set. Anything beyond this angle makes the picture almost unwatchable because of distortion so the brightness becomes irrelevant. Vertical viewing angle is more limited but the perfect at normal seating height - I don`t usually stand to watch television. The key point about projection televisions (and LCD) is that they consume about half the power of plasma televisions for those who are worried about electricity bills or the environment. I personally think that the DLP picture quality is also better than most plasma sets due to the higher native resolution which can provide a far sharper picture on good material.

I`ve got 2 Sony 50" set`s (KDFE50A?) and couldn`t be happier with them. I`d quite happily upgrade to the 55" 1080p and I almost bought one a couple of months ago when they had them for £999 on Amazon.
Most people who come in to my lounge are blown away with the set in there, and as it`s in the corner most don`t even realise it`s RP and are shocked when I tell them.
£999 for a 55" 1080p screen with a 5 year warranty is an absolute steal - if this was a plasma they`d be snapped up in minutes but people start getting all elitist just because it`s RP and can`t be hung on a wall. Most people I know with Plasmas/LCDs in their lounge have them in a corner anyway.
I think the only people who knock these sets are those who haven`t seen them running and paid crap loads for there own 42" 720p plasmas and don`t want to admit they could have got something better for their money.

Couldn`t agree more with two posters above. Looking at many similar sized lcd`s & plasma`s - no contest.
This set is 1080p (over 6 million pixels), contrast ratio 10,000:1 and response time 2.5ms.
In contrast, the average is 5,000:1 and 8ms.
JL have just added some more stock - 4 LEFT NOW - HURRY IF YOU WANT ONE

All gone now (:¦ . I ordered one of these at the weekend & also used a £20 off voucher and went via Quidco getting 5% off the selling price. £930 with a 5 year warranty is excellent value for a 55" 1080p screen. I don`t see the point in wall mounting lcd`s & plasmas as you still need space for amp, dvd player etc. The depth of this tv is about the same as my amp so it`ll fit nicely in the supplied stand along with Sky HD, centre speaker, Xbox 360 & DVD player :D
