This strikes me as a good deal ? Pre-order a GeForce4 ?

Dan Bates (Admin) posted this on Tuesday, 5th March 2002, 11:39

I spotted this on Dabs website:

Creative GF4 Ti4400 128MB DDR AGP RP VO

£215 (£252 inclusive)

Quicklink: 17NBWS

That seems like a good deal to me, because most of the other GF4`s around seem to be coming in at £300+. Is this worth snapping up ? What are people`s opinions on this ?

PS I also found the same card at Ebuyer for £201.26 - why are the creative cards so much cheaper than the others I`ve seen springing up ?

I remember reading a group test review of older GEForce cards a while ago and at that time the Creative came out the cheapest as it used the slowest and therefore cheapest RAM than the others.
Obviously dont know it that applies here..

Not sure about this , seen something similar from Scan @ £86 + Vat
I think these are cut down versions , rumour has it that these arn`t muvh more powerfull than GTS GF2`s.

As regards the cheapness , Usually down to slower & cheaper memory chips on the board. - I know got stung last year with this one myself
Bought Radeon , thought it was Retail got OEM instead.

Retail memory timing 5.5Ns
OEM memory timing 6Ns

You`re getting confused :

There is a big difference between the Geforce4MX and the Geforce4 Ti (4200, 4400 and 4600)

The MX is effectively only really a Geforce2.5 because it has the NV17 core. The Geforce4 Ti is the NV25.

s*** naming system, but what can you do ?!?

I don`t believe there have been any reviews of the Creative GF4`s yet.

Review of the GEForce TI 4600 at www.pcpro.co.uk.
Verdict: Stunning 3D performance and much-improved 2D capabilities. The Ti 4600 takes on all comers and wins
