4 Disc LOTR at Play

sashenden (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 18th April 2002, 20:01

Play are taking orders for LOTR 4 disc sets, £22 for the normal 4 disc version, £36 for the Special edition boxset. Also states that the 4 disc version has a DTSand Dolby soundtrack but the 2 disc set is Dolby only. Can anyone confirm this?

At that price, who cares ?

Point to note, though, this isn`t due out until November. Worth waiting for in my opinion, and I`ve ordered it ! Cheers, Sashenden.

Apparently the 2 disc is DD EX, and no DTS.

Apologies in advance if this is an obvious question which has already been dealt with elsewhere, but what is the difference between the 4 disc set and the collectors` edition? I had a quick look at Play and the only obvious difference seemed to be that the collectors` edition has those book end thingies. Am I missing something?

The most notable difference is that the collector`s edition only features the theatrical version, while the 4 disc set additionally features an extended director`s cut which is about 30 minutes longer.

Not sure that`s quite right, Eckl.

Both the director`s cut and the collector`s edition appear to be 4 disc sets, and both have the additional 30 minutes that were cut from the theatrical release. Maybe you`re confusing the collector`s edition with the 2 disk set which come out earlier?

My question was more to do with the differences between the two different 4 disc sets.

Pretty sure it`s just the case - contents of the discs is the same for both 4 disc sets.

There are 3 versions of this movie.

A 2 disc release.
A 4 disc special edition with +30 minutes footage and all the bells and whistles.
A 4 disc collecters edition (as above) with plaster book ends shaped liked the Argonath and other bitz n bobz (cards etc.).

Its on the news pages.
