Does anybody know of any plans to release a Titanic Special Edition DVD and when?

Cheers

Probably never because after all the film sucked ass ;-)

But seriously I have no idea. Cameron hasn`t done much "movie" work since he got that $100m pay cheque for that travesty of film.

Actually Chewie, that travesty of a film was almost historically perfect. The lovey dovey stuff was of course fiction but it was at least believable unlike a hell of a lot of other films. Some facts were twisted of course, most notably Murdoch committing suicide, etc. But the other events of the night were widely covered. A Special Edition would add to this inter alia by including scenes from the Californian which ignored the Titanic`s distress calls.

So, if you`re gonna have a go at what is an excellent 3 hours of drama, action and romance (even with all the hype and `king of the world` crap) at least give a reason.

Titanic is only historically correct if you like the film. I`ve done 2 years research on the events of the Titanic and I can tell you there are more than just a few "twists".

The romance is not believable and is poorly acted (I don`t care if Winslet was nominated for an Oscar, Oscars mean nothing). Winslet has been much better in other films (pretty much every other film she has been in, but especially Jude). DiCaprio is lost at sea too. He has also been better and although he has a massive hate club I think he has done some good work (Basketball Diaries, Gilbert Grape...). Then there is Billy Zane. At least he was funny.

Yes the action was quite good, but nothing compared to Cameron`s earlier work. And you had to watch 90 minutes of DROSS to get to the half decent bit.

So I bet by you saying "almost historically perfect" you have indeed done a little research. Obviously you haven`t done enough or you would know just how many mistakes there are. Hell, they couldn`t even mimic the ship properly.

`Almost Historically Perfect` in terms of the events leading up to and during the sinking. For Example, the lighting of the last 2 boilers, the order of launch of the lifeboats, the last sighting of Captain Smith, etc. Admitedly it is all hearsay based on the accounts of survivors, and in certain areas reasoned judgement had to be made in order to promote the drama. I for one prefer A Night to Remember although certain things like the ship sinking in one piece have obviously now been proved incorrect. I think the older film captures the emotion better. But then again you can`t beat a good ol` piece of American Hollywood tripe to entertain our tired overworked little old brains for a few hours can you? Just look at Star Wars (a dig in the ribs for Chewie!).

:)

There is a Special Edition of Titanic planned for release next year, James Cameron has even been down to the great ship to film some more material for inclusion on the DVD. Hopefully this time they will give us an anamorphic transfer (although Cameron is not a great lover of widescreen) and some decent extras instead of the bare bones release we got some years ago which was sold for an extortionate price.

Where does it say that Cameron is not a widescreen lover? After spending all that time and money on production design, you can`t say that you`re not a lover of the wider canvas!

A dig in the ribs?
I don`t think so. ;-)

Just look at fan base. Star Wars = All ages and both sexes.
Titanic = teenage girls.

;-p

I disagree. I am not a teenage girl but i loved this movie. Star Wars is an entire trilogy so u cannot simply judge it like that. Titanic as a movie was far more successful than any star wars movie and basically ranks higher in my ratings than any star wars movies although i am very much a star wars fan and love the movies, Titanic was a better movie and was very touching.

It has been widely reported that Cameron is not a lover of widescreen, that is precisely why he did not approve an anamorphic print of "The Abyss" to be used or indeed one for the initial "Titanic" release. In order for companies to release DVD`s with an anamorphic print they need to get the permission of the director to create one. However he obviously approved one to be used on both Terminator movies so perhaps things are looking up and we will get a decent print for the "Titanic" SE.
