Anyone seen the reviews of this disc around? Apparently the picture is staggering!

It was a direct transfer from the digital stock lucasfilm used to make the celluloid film reels given to the cinemas. (in much the same way the Pixar films are transferred to dvd)

Funny, the film didn`t seem crap to me. They said Phantom was crap, but that didn`t stop 2 million copies of the DVD being sold in it`s first weekend of release

Yes digital stock, l know.

Phantom menace is crap

Lucas had no excuse to make another poor film. Some of the special effects were rubbish.

Seeing the original on TV, shows how good the first trilogy is, and how this one fails to impress.

Take Lord of the Rings against either new Star Wars and you can see the massive gulf in quality. Both films are aimed at the customers. Rings is better written, looking and made, whic is a shame, as l love the first trilogy

And if you were to suffer amnesia and see the original trilogy again for the first time tommorrow you`d rip the p*ss out of it and make the same criticisms that you`re making of the new trilogy just now!
Nostalgia is a wonderful thing!

I have to agree with Straight Jacket.

I love the original trilogy, grown up with them. They will always be some of my favourite films, but if you show the original trilogy to kids nowadays they are not interested! They would rather watch Harry Potter!

I don`t agree with that.
I think if i did see them today I`d still love them. The problem I had with the attack of the clones was the dreadful acting and the need to fill every piece of the screen with a special effect of some kind to substitute the extremley p*** poor plot holes and coincidences.
Somethings that I don`t think the originals could be accused of. Great acting, reasonably amusing script and an engrossing storyline that even though ripped from Akira Kurosawa still seems pretty original.

I happened to think AOTC was great. Yes the direlogue at times was amusing when it shouldn`t be, but the Original Trilogy wasn`t great either when it came to writing. AOTC done what TPM didn`t, it had grittiness (sp?). Towards the end, things were getting rough and dirty, which was what the OT looked like. TPM was too childish and shiny, but I still like it because there are some positive factors. But AOTC was classic Star Wars and is the most fun film I have seen this year at the cinema (out of about 100 films so far). Sure, its not the best but its still damn good.
