what is a superbit DVD ?

I have seen on some DVD webpages,mostly USA,the mention of superbit and DVD 9, what are they please.?

They are DVDs minus the normal extras ie the entire DVD consists just of the film, this allows the use of the highest sample bitrate hence higher film quality.

As for DVD-9, that`s a dual-layer DVD with approximately 9 Gigabyte capacity (as opposed to a single-layer DVD, or DVD-5, which stores only about 5 Gigabytes).

Most major film releases these days are on dual-layer DVDs.

DVD-5 and DVD-9 are both single-sided, the remaining types of DVD are double-sided:

DVD-10: single layer on both sides
DVD-14: single layer on one side, dual layers on the other side
DVD-18: dual layer on both sides
