How to waste hours and time

Hot Honda (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 3rd January 2001, 01:14

I`m literate, very PC capable, and follow best advise wherever possible.

Thinking "Oh, the Web MUST be the place to get low cost DVD`s.." I busily spend due time searching for the bargains that justify the internet`s lightning growth....

Alternatively, I just walk into my local Our Price, and pick up the oustanding "Contact" for a tenner along with whole ton of worthy others at.....yes a Tenner (best price seen on the web is £17.99)

Aha...the scam is revealed...The only people having fun on the internet are the phone companies.

I think it needed saying.

Contact was one of those titles that Warner dropped down to around 12.99 weren`t it? www.Play247.com have it for 10.99.
Quite a few supermarkets are doing offers of, buy two for £20.00 (as the ASDA in our place are charging that, I think. And knowing the supermarkets, they follow one another).
But if you`ve bought it for a tenner, good on you. At least it`s new (first owner).

Quite a load of mine are second hand, some from Blockbusters and the majority of the rest, Hong Kong releases (region 0). My collections made up of films under a tenner.

If any advice be given to the general public is to not fling silly money around. It doesn`t matter if you buy it from the internet or down the market (little free advertisement for Jimbo`s cousin). If you find what you want at the price which you are willing to part with, then go ahead, and as Hothonda, so rightly put it, not all the best prices are on the internet, all shops are competing against one another, just that the web opens up a wider number of competition.

At the end of the day, it`s the consumers which will drive down prices. Just ain`t me to think of a masterplan.

I bought The Mask and Austin Powers for a tenner each from Our Price. It`s called `The January Sales` which hasn`t (yet) made its way to the net.

There are R2 bargains on the net if you look hard enough so to say it`s a scam is a bit harsh. After all, where better to buy R1 titles.

That also needed saying

and I`d imagine most of us have sorted a 24/7, SurfTime or similar connection....

C`mon OFTEL....let`s really "Get it on" with BT so I can get my 24/7 back!

Where better to buy R1 discs ? - well from USA direct of course - and working for a US based operation, and commuting regularly has certain benefits....(like $19 for Gladiator R1).
