Apes Box Set on R2 All in Anamorphic
Nuff said.
Who says R2 get a bum deal.
RE: Who has the phantom menace?
Not me, that`s for sure and I wouldn`t even have it given to me.
RE: is there any were i can buy bootleg dvd for a cheap price????
You can see new films like AI in the theatre. You only have to wait around 6 months or less before it is released on DVD. And when it is released you can bet it will be a far superior product than any shoddy bootleg from a Car boot sale on a Sunday morning.
RE: HMV make me laugh once more
These `offers` always seem to only include the 12.99 barebones Warner range. The same ones that you can pick up for £7.99 from www.play247.com
RE: Time to Dust off the Nukes !!
Yep you can always rely on the Brits in times of crisis.
Aussies and Canadians too.
RE: Can we watch films in the same way again?
Ironically I actually ordered Towering Inferno on the Monday before the tragedy. I have since cancelled the order.
There`s no way I can bring myself to watch this film for a while.
Also, any scenes showing the WTC are going to look very strange, indefinatley.
I saw the Spiderman trailer at the cinema last Saturday. The WTC scene is a superb scene, but there`s no way they can show it or even keep it in the final film.
RE: recording region 1 discs
"back up copies"...sure ;)
If indeed what you say is true then I have to ask WHY.
Isn`t it defeating the whole point of DVD....picture and sound quality, durability, accessabilty, less shelf space required etc etc.
RE: So if Predator 1 and 2 are cut - Whats missing ?
Yes the official release on VHS is uncut.
Well the original rental release was but am not sure about subsequent sellthru releases.
The TV version (ITV) did have some cuts made. I know the `severed arm` scene was missing as I noticed this straight away. Can`t remember anymore though.
What mystifys me is why were these cuts made?
They`re just run of the mill stuff, they`re not that bad.
I`m sure there are movies that have a lot worse scenes that are not cut.
RE: The Warriors to be released in mono
I agree about the extra footage at the start. I have only seen this when it is aired by the BBC. It doesn`t exist on my VHS version.
Why it was cut I`ll never know! It makes much more sense as you see at the start, where they end up again at the end of the film (a common narrative in film making)
I hope the DVD will include this opening sequence.
Bit dissapointed that they haven`t remixed the sound in 5.1, but i`ll still buy it, as long as it includes the opening sequence.
Have you read the book?
It is completely different than the film and I must admit I found it very disturbing reading.
RE: Couching Dragon Hidden What?
`Wires` is the answer to your original question.

RE: Differences in extras on R1 and R2. WHY?
You also have to bear in mind that the copyrights of some featurettes/documentaries etc don`t always extend beyond The U.S. and vicer versa.
RE: Pioneer 717 &VCDs
I have a 717 and it plays VCDs fine. Although they never autostart. I always have to press PLAY manually. Does it play other VCDs?
If its an `unofficial` copy then that is the chance you take i`m afraid.
RE: 32`` Widescreen Telly for £299
Clayts
What about future VCRs. I haven`t heard of any that come with built in digital tuners (IDTV), even the new D-VHS range have analog tuners, (don`t they ?).
I somehow can`t see recordable DVD or PVR being the norm in just 5 years time.
RE: How do you prepare for watching DVDs ?
First of all I make sure that the DVD, TV and Dolby Receiver are turned on.
I then make sure that the DVD is in the tray
I then sit down on the `sweet spot` chair.
Press play on the remote.
That`s about it really.

RE: Widescreen TV Question...
Wait a while and get a WS IDTV (intergrated Digital TV).
Like a previous poster said `Now is NOT a good time to buy a WS TV).
In a few years it will be nothing more than a glorified monitor with a useless analog tuner.
Oh, and don`t believe the nonsense about 100Hz TVs not being able to cope with fast moving images, that`s BOLLOX. Some of the cheaper models maybe, but not so for the Panasonic range, they are absolutely STUNNING.
RE: VHS/DVD trades - Want to trade my VHS`s somehow for DVDs, but want to find a way that is good.
Have you seen the prices of VHS films in the High street these days.
They`re practically giving them away!
Nobody wants them.
You`ll be lucky if you get a pound a tape.
Why don`t you the decent thing and give them to charity.
However, I tried to offload my VHS collection with my local Barnardos but as they weren`t in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 they weren`t interested ;)

It`s a bit American but has 100s of members
RE: is dts much better than dolby digital 5.1
There isn`t much difference so you ain`t missing much.
RE: 32`` Widescreen Telly for £299
If only Cable could do this.
The only problem with Sky is that out of the three digital STBs, their picture quality is by far the worst when it comes to digital artefacts. I have seen some Sky Sports broadcasts in my mate`s house that are so bad that they are unwatchable.
RE: RGB VCR
No, a standard VCR uses composite analogue and NOT a digital signal as used by RGB.
Digital VHS on the other hand could ise RGB, although I don`t know if any of the models do.
RE: 32`` Widescreen Telly for £299
Once you get used to WS broadcasts and the clarity of digital TV then 4:3 anaolgue just don`t cut the yellow stuff anymore.
When my cable STB is tied up when i`m recording something then it`s a real downer when I want to watch the other side (analogue).
So, I`m not prepared to fork out for another STB and besides my TV has only one RGB SCART so I will lose out there too.
So the next TV I buy MUST have DVB. Nothing less will do.
RE: HELP! I want to record R1 to VHS? How? Which player?
Why would you wnat to record DVDs to VHS anyway?
Kinda defeats the object if you ask me.
RE: 32`` Widescreen Telly for £299
True what you about STBs, however I would still rather have it intergrated and be able to see the `basic channels` for free rather than paying a subscription just to see them through a STB
RE: WARNING: DVD `Side Effects`
Seems I`m not alone (didn`t think I would be, somehow!) and there are some who are `worse off` than me.
Philly, I wish I could help. £ 160 over 4 days is pushing the boat out a bit for a 15 year old. I`m a lot older than you and in full-time employment and have never spent that much on DVDs in such a short spcae of time.
You must have a well paid paper round ! (only kidding).
I don`t think there`s any hope for any of us, so...
Long may the `addiction` continue.
RE: The big 100hz/50hz debate - what`s your view ?
Forget all the nonsense you`ve read about 100hz TVs. THEY ARE FAR SUPERIOR IN EVERY WAY THAN ANY 50hz model.
BUT
Make sure you go for a Panasonic Tau model. These are the best 100Hz CRT models to date (even better than the Sony Wegas).
No artefacts, juddering, fizzing, smearing etc.
These are ALWAYS highly rated in review magazines..
Check out...

If you want to read those garish DVD menus, biographies etc comftorbly then 100Hz is the only way you can do so.
50Hz TVs are NOT designed to display small computer style text and will do your eyes no good in the long run.
I mean, you wouldn`t set your PC monitor on anything less than 75Hz would you?
With `TV internet` becoming more and more common place then 100Hz is the only way to view these web style screens from at a distance.
Trust me go for a 100Hz, anything less is pointless.
Anyway, why not wait a year when IDTVs will be more the norm.
I can`t understand why anybody would want to buy an analogue WS TV when they know that this techonology will be literally turned off in the next few years. In which case your TV will be nothing more than a stand alone monitor.
RE: Interference problems on playback
Sounds like something is conflicting with the AV channel.
Are you using a SCART?
Do any other devices shaer the same SCART on the TV?
Try turning these off when watching a DVD.

RE: 32`` Widescreen Telly for £299
Yes good VFM, butdon`t be surprised if it goes faulty in less than a year..
"You gets what you pay for"
Anyway, now is not a good time to be buying a TV. Wait a year and IDTVs (DVB) will be the norm.
I can`t understand why anybody would want to buy a WS analogue TV, it just doesn`t make sense.
WARNING: DVD `Side Effects`
I`ve owned a DVD player for 2 years now and have experienced the following `side effects`.
Anybody else experienced the following or other `side effcts`?....
Buying DVDs becomes unusually addictive. You find yourself buying titles that you would never dream of buying on VHS.
You may even buy titles that were on TV the night before (I have)
VHS looks 100 times worse.
Dolby Pro-Logic, which you once thought was `the bees knees` now sounds on a par with mono.
You actually start to study the spec on the back of the box before buying.
You will probably NEVER want to watch a film on VHS or TV ever again.
Widescreen: Initially you may hate it but believe me it WILL grow on you and within about a month or two nothing less than WS anamorphic will do.
You will start to see people who have not yet converted to DVD as very inferior human beings to yourself.
Each DVD viewing beomes more of an `event`, where the timing has to be just right, when you know you won`t be disturbed at all for a couple of hours.
If I`ve missed anything out, then please feel free to add to the list.
