The Fog (R1), The Evil Dead (R2).....snowy picture???
Honestly, do the reviewers actually look at the same discs i buy?
Hands up anyone out there who has either of the above 2 films. On many scenes, doesnt it look as if there are hundreds of tiny stars in front of the picture? or put it another way, you see a good picture but someone is tipping a light wall of flour in front of the screen.
Yes, I know the films are old, but the reviews in mags and online never mention these glaring irritations, and "The Fog" gets quite decent reviews for its picture quality. Does anyone else get this? Is this what some people call "grain"? I`ve tried the discs on friends` players and the "snow" is still visible, so it must be the disks themselves. I`ve sometimes seen this "snow" on modern movies as well, and its driving me mad.

Seriously the picture of both discs through my players, a tosh and a dansai, is perfect, not reference but better than on a lot of modern films. Didn`t notice any snowing, could it be your connections or tv? cant necessarily see why it would be but i cant think why you would experience this....

The Evil Dead was only ever filmed in a 4:3 ratio .
The region 2 version has been cropped and put into1.85:1.This has enlarged the image and caused a "grain".

Also, the fact that it was shot on 16mm doesn`t help. But I think it was pretty good quality and don`t notice anything that isn`t seen in other DVD`s.

I have copies of both films and I do not see what the originator of this thread sees. I suggest you try them on another player. If problem persists perhaps a trip to the opticians may be called for :)
