Page 1 of Leon - which version is the best?
DVDs & Films Forum
There are two R1 versions, and one R2 version, as well as another rumoured R2 version on the way.
Which is the best?
(Play have the R2 @ £9.99, and the extended R1 version @ £16.99)
Richard Booth
I have the R1 version (complete uncut) and as far as I am concerned this is the only version to get.

It`s worth the extra!
RE: Leon - which version is the best?
I have the Integral version which is only available on import from japan. There`s no extras, no menu screen, no chapter index, and only 6 chapters in all.
But it does have the longest version available (longer than the R1 & R2 directors cuts) and DD5.1.
RE: Leon - which version is the best?
Definitely go for the R1 Uncut International version!
I loved the original version when I first saw it, but the extended cut really does add a lot to the story and the development of the two central characters, as a whole it`s just a much more satisfying cut of the film.

RE: Leon - which version is the best?
Floyd, the integral version isn`t the same as the directors cut. mainly due to the lack of anything of interest on the disc on the film.
This film also includes an extra minute or so, which I`m not going to describe due to it`s taboo content (It`s a subject the Japanese are ok with). I`ve seen the R1 directors cut and the aforementioned scene isn`t in it.
The film isn`t any the better for it, in fact, I`d go for the versions with the extras. I just got it as it was on a special offer.
RE: Leon - which version is the best?
A longer director cut, retitled `Leon: version integrale` has been re-released in French cinemas on June 26, 1996.
This version is 26 minutes longer than the previously release version and features all sequences that were removed from the film after disastrous tests with L.A. preview audiences.
The new scenes include:
Mathilda asking Leon to have sex with her and Leon refusing;
Leon explaining why he had to leave Italy and go to New York when he was 19 years old;
Mathilda and Leon sleeping together in a bed;
Mathilda threatening to shoot herself playing russian roulette.
Leon and Mathilda hitting the home of a tattoed drug dealer, and setting fire to his supply of drugs;
New training missions where Mathilda learns the ropes of becoming an assassin.
Leon and Matilda going to a restaurant to celebrate her first hit
The scene in which Stansfield questions Tony about Leon and Mathilda`s whereabouts was originally longer.
Cut from the final version, Stansfield calls the little children back from the kitchen and threatens to shoot them if Tony does not reveal where Leon and Mathilda are hiding.
A director`s cut has been released on video in Sweden, Norway and Japan, 23 minutes longer than the original theatrical release. It`s almost the same as the French original cut, EXCEPT from the scene where Stan threatens the kids in the kitchen.
The director`s cut (with the 26 additional minutes) has been released on DVD.

RE: Leon - which version is the best?
Quite simply, the R1 International Version is exactly the same cut of the film as the Japanese import - take it from someone who`s owned both ;-)
(oh yeah, and it`s the ONLY one to get too)

"Mathilda threatening to shoot herself playing russian roulette.

These scenes rock! That drug dealer scene had me in stiches at the end of it, classic, absolute bloody classic film...
