X-Men 1.5

Pistol (Competent) posted this on Monday, 28th April 2003, 10:42

I`m thinking about buying X-Men 1.5, as I never got round to watching it and now I quite fancy seeing X-Men 2. Hardly worth renting, `cos I can buy for £11.56 (http://www.fbo.com.au/movie.asp?ID=8643). What I want to know is, should I get the 1.5 version over the original release? I`m particularly interested in the deleted scenes (I like these on DVDs!) - are there any differences between the two versions? The original seems to have seamless branching, so you can watch the whole film with the scenes inserted - does the 1.5 version also have this?

Thanks for any advice!

It does have a deleted scenes branching system however, they are non-anamorphic and are of poor quality so they aren't really seamless.

aye the deleted scenes are a little roapy, probably same on both versions, the 1.5 version is however a top rated and damn good 2 disc package and worth every penny if you don`t have it on DVD...

Thanks for the info! Sounds like I will definitely get the 1.5 edition. Deleted scenes usually are a bit ropey, I guess there is no point spending loads of money on post-production jazzing up of something that`s only to be included as an extra. It was just the seamless branching thing that led me to suspect that they might be film-quality in this case, kind of like a director`s cut or something. If they`re just bog-standard deleted scenes then watching them as part of the movie doesn`t bother me, I`ll just watch `em as extras.

Deleted scenes have always fascinated me, I love the idea of seeing something you were never meant to see (even though these days they are getting quite common on DVD`s). I like reading scripts as well to see what`s changed during filming.

Wow, that turned into quite a lengthy "thanks"! Now to look forward to the usual "what have you been buying now" from the missus when a package arrives on me doormat ;-)

I ordered my copy from Play last week, and it should arrive tomorrow.

I got it for the same reasons as Pistol it seems - and yes, reliable sources have stated that 1.5 is much better than 1.0.

it`s always a bugger, isn`t it? X-Nen was in fact the first R1 DVD I ever bought. I was chuffed as buggery when I was able to say "actually, I`ve already got that on DVD. imported it from the states, y`know" Couldn`t actually play it for a month as my player wasn`t hacked, but the sentiment was there.

My quandry is: do I forsake my R1 cherry-popper and get the new version, or do I stick with ol` faithful?

I`ve been wondering about getting this as well, but according to Play the extras are quite different - the Region1 has 24 deleted scenes and the audio commentary features Hugh Jackman & Patrick Stewart. Does anyone have the new R1 version ?

I wonder if the 24 "deleted" scenes actually include the behind the scenes features or something, as looking around, no mention on dvdcompare, or http://www.michaeldvd.com.au/Reviews/Reviews.asp?ID=2699 to suggest that the R1 is more fully laden.

as with most Fox double disc releases recently, R1 and R2 are no different aside from boxart and maybe subtitle choices

And if you`ve got a mate who also wants "X-Men 1.5" you can get two for £18 from WHSmiths and the missus need never know as there will be no tell-tale thud on the doormat one morning!
