The Shield, any good?

Axel40 (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 26th July 2003, 20:10

I missed this first time round, don`t watch hardly ANY television these days.

Anyway, the first season box set is out and I was wondering if it`s worth watching, I know nothing about it cept it`s a cop show :)

So, anyone have this and is it any good?

TIA

Axel

Well worth getting...

Michael Chiklis (sp?) is excellent as Vic Mackie.

Just the right amount of the bizarre and comic.

The best US cop show since NYPD Blue, without a doubt. Very violent though, especially season 2, which is showing Tuesday nights on Channel Five.

I recently bought this R1 without having seen it, and was surprised(Im not a fan of hill st blues,NYPD etc) but I took a risk on this. Its one of the best TV shows ever only Sopranos beats it.All the actors are great especially M.Chiklis and the guy who plays a character called dutch. There are some decent extras too, this show is that good That ive watched a couple of episodes again whereas say with 24 which I borrowed Its good but I couldnt watch that again. Season two has started on CH5 But I pre-ordered Season 2 R1 i think its out in october, I`ll wait and watch them all together.

I watched the R1 pilot at a friends` house the other day and was very impressed. Even more so that R2 is widescreen enhanced over the R1 4:3 version.

If you do buy it, get region 2, not region 1.

Watched it since day one, best TV at the moment. Rates alongside Sopranos (perhaps even a little faster when it comes to action) & CSI.

Actually Shawn Ryan, the creator of the Shield mentions on one of the commentaries that Full Screen is in fact the intended ratio for this series (shades of Joss Whedon here) so the R2 is actually not the correct way to watch it. To be honest I prefer the show in Widescreen and the R2 also has the "Previously on the Shield" segments that were missing on the R1.

Yes, I read about this yesterday and was a bit disappointed. But having said that, apparently there are deleted scenes shown as 1.78:1. So I`m sure the framing will be okay in widescreen.
