`The Simpsons` specials....any real need to buy them???

Andy_R (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 7th August 2003, 22:20

I see another batch of `Simpsons` specials are to be released! I bought the film festival one a few months ago and apart from the extras - well , extra to be precise - I didnt really see the point in it! The extra is only a 2 minute documentary on one of the characters anyway!!!

What Im going to do is just buy the boxsets as they`re released. At least they have commentaries and a shed load of extras!

Just wondering what everybodys view on these specials are?

That is what everyone wants, yet Fox are not playing ball, and are releasing a boxset every 13 months (there are 15 to collect!), and in the meantime have the audacity to milk us consumers.

I advise you to bypass them, and just hope that this will encourage Fox to release the boxsets quicker.

Quite.

On his introduction letter in the first series boxset Matt Greoning himself said something like "Congrats on buying the first serires of the Simpsons on DVD. By the time you`ve completed the collection, DVD will have been replaced with a new format."

That was funny, until it actually dawned it might come true. :o(

Do what I do. Get a DVD Recorder and record all the episodes from Sky/BBC2. Sure, even with Sky Digital they`re not up to the high standard of original DVDs but theyre far better than VHS or internet downloads. Nearly got all the episodes recorded now :)

The simpsons classics are just the old videos that came out (too hot for tv,simpsons go to hollywood, greatest hits etc) they are just trying to con people by giving them new covers

Yeah the wait between seasons being released is ridiculous. I hope the DVD releases don`t go the way of the VHS season releases which came to a grinding halt at season 2!

I`ve heard that the slow release schedule for the Simpsons Season Box Sets is all down to Matt Groening and the team, it has nothing whatsoever to do with Fox who actually wanted to release them much quicker. Groening said no as he wanted to ensure that all the box sets would be the best possible releases with all the special features instead of the near bare bones versions that Fox would have released.
