Pre-ordering - what the hell`s the point?
[rant]
I`m really starting to wonder if there`s any point in pre-ordering. I pre-ordered my copy of LOTR:TTT months ago from Play. They posted it to me on Wednesday, and thanks to the second-class service the Royal Mail provides outside of London I now know I won`t get it until Tuesday at the earliest. If I get it at all, because two orders in transit over a weekend have gone astray in the past month.
To add insult to injury, all of the high street retailers have broken the sales embargo on the title, and I could have been watching the movie now rather than waiting for the official launch date. Oh, and if I went to Tesco`s, I`d be able to pick it up £4 less than Play`s price!
Grrr Argh >:(

I`ve had this problem before in the past with a major release, you order it online to try and save money and the shops have a price war when the title comes out, and it ends up cheaper in the shops :( I suppose you live and learn?
RE: Pre-ordering - what the hell`s the point?
You have a very good point there.
Last year I ordered my LOTR box set months in advance after being told how `limited` it was. My local WHSmiths still has them on the shelves. Also, at the time PLAY completely f***ed the order up and it took me about 3 weeks after the release date until I recieved it, so I`d have been better off buying from the highstreet.

Play don`t really let you pre-order.
Obviously you can place your order, but it doesn`t mean you`re going to get it earlier than someone who ordered it 2 weeks after you.
Ordered mine off CD-Wow on Tuesday night, arrived on Friday morning, not bad at all.

Actually none of the retailers have broken the embargo on TLOTR:TTT because EIV sent out a memo saying that they could begin selling it on Friday.

find that pre ordering only comes in handy with region 1 stuff as that normaly turns up about 2 weeks before release date but region 2 no buy from highstreet or shop around for bargains!
RE: Pre-ordering - what the hell`s the point?
I am yet to be disappointed from pre-ordering on the internet. I received The Two Towers on Thursday from Blackstar, and thanks to them dropping the postage cost it was the same price as Play.
I also usually get my pre-ordered titles from Play on the Saturday before release, and that is at the latest as I`ve had them on Fridays before.
Amazon usually send it out so it arrives on the day of release, so I stopped using them ;)
But Blackstar are the best for delivering early. I paid the full £15.99 for LOTR: TTT, but I sometimes look around for voucher codes and get things quite cheap :D
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, no matter how wrong it is ;-)

I ordered ER s1 from Amazon.com in June for £30. I went to the site to see when it was due to be delivered (after seeing that futureent were shipping them) and the date was 26th September! To add insult to injury it`s now cheaper, and has some free downloadable interview if you buy it! I`ve cancelled the order and placed one with Futureent.com instead, it`s cheaper and I won`t have to wait another month for it!

Chewie - where in the country do you live? It takes an average four days for anything to filter through the Royal Mail system to where I live, unless it`s recorded delivery when they actually do shift themselves.
We`re supposed to have a postal system where you get the same service wherever you live for the same price.

"We`re supposed to have a postal system where you get the same service wherever you live for the same price."
We do have a very good postal system in this country. So before slagging off us posties have a look at Play themselves.
I have ordered movies from them before and it says the item was "shipped" and a week later still no film. Ring to enquire and low and behold 2 days later i receive my movie.
It seems that they put on the site that it has been sent and infact it hasn`t. 1 movie i orderded was processing for 2 weeks!!! When i rang i was told it had been sent 10 days ago.
So gives us posties a break and appreciate what service you get because before 2 long you may not have any and then you WILL have something to complain about.
