Seemed a bit too fast for me and wasn`t getting to focus on faces much but did seem a bit ugly, so started watching one side then the other.

RE: Looking for a Projector for under £1000

Also...not wanting to draw away users of this site, but there`s a very decent amount of info on projectors on avforums.com. I certainly found it useful when making my choice.

RE: Looking for a Projector for under £1000

I`ve got an Epson TW-3200. It`s superb and was £1000 on the dot.

Part of the reason for wanting LCD was the colour fringing effect which I could see when I demo`d a couple of DLP projectors. I`m no expert but apparently this can be an issue with DLPs.

The room I`m using it can be pretty much sealed off from all light, so getting it dark enough to get good contrast isn`t a problem.

As for a screen, I haven`t got the room to set up a permanent arrangement, so we have a portable screen that rolls up from the floor (or actually from my TV stand, just in front of my TV, to avoid blocking the centre speaker). It was £80 from Richer Sounds and is 80 inches on the diagonal - plenty big enough for my viewing distance.

RE: Sky+ HD vs V+ HD...

Yeah, the not owning the box factor with Virgin is a big appeal.

I still have my V+ box, it`s just had its recording features disabled. If I go back to using the service I just need to call them up and they`ll enable it all again (I have kept Virgin broadband as it is far better than any phone line based broadband I`ve used).

RE: Sky+ HD vs V+ HD...

Had both. Started with V+ and moved to Sky+ because I was offered a staff referral discount (half price) which was too good to refuse.

The 3rd tuner on Virgin is very useful.

I`ll probably stay with Sky for the following reasons:

HD Sports and Movies
I`ve installed a 1TB disk into my Sky+HD box and have loads more storage space than the Virgin box could offer (which I don`t think is able to be upgradable in the same way).

Sky is also much quicker at changing channels, more responsive when pausing / fast forwarding and also crashes much, much less than the V+ box (mine was averaging about once a day at one point!).

On the plus side for Virgin, if you`re not interested in Sports or Movies, it`s much cheaper. If I was going to ditch movies and sports, I`d go back to Virgin straightaway.

RE: anyone used envirofone?

Used envirofone 3 times - each time they`d offer more than anyone else would.

Took their option of an argos voucher instead as it worked out more than cash.

RE: Sky+HD Hard Drive Upgade - Anyone here done it?

I`ve done it.

I think there are loads of guides (see above post!).

I have an Amstrad box which had a 320gig Western Digital drive in, so I replaced it with a 1TB drive from the same range - 2% free suddenly became 80% !

Fairly easy to do. I`m sure the guides will go into more detail, but the basics are:

Open up your Sky box

Take out the hard disk

Put the original disk into your computer and copy the data over to the new drive (using Sky Copy Plus)

Put the new drive into the Sky box and turn on.

That`s it!

RE: Headphone(s) recommendations please...

Grado SR60 / SR80 are cracking, brilliant headphones.

Only issue is they leak a lot of sound out (but that`s what makes them sound so good, as covering the headpieces muffles the sound).

RE: Play.com feckers

I`ve had a similar issue with an order of mine - ordered a game at £30 and it`s gone out of stock (2 weeks after ordering now!!) and can`t cancel it.

Can`t get anywhere on the phone, went on hold for 35 minutes earlier today and never got to speak to a human being. What a joke. I`m losing my faith in them a bit, they`re nowhere near what they used to be.

RE: Xmas Present suggestions for the wife! (serious, rude or otherwise)

Once you do finally decide what to get her, make sure you stick it inside a box for a hoover, so at least you get some good mileage out of winding her up

The single will struggle to reach 500k sales though.

However, I bet 90% of the people signing up to the facebook groups will not buy RATM`s track either.

RE: Adverts on ITV are reaching critical mass!

With reference to Star Wars....I switched it on and caught the last hour or so and there was a good 35 minutes without adverts, as far as I remember. Maybe they got them all out of the way in the first half (?)

RE: TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR thread season 2009/2010

I`ve had a couple of texts saying that "rumours" are spreading that he`s allegedly about to get arrested for money laundering. Don`t know any more than that - could be pure speculation.

RE: Driving licence question ...probably one for marksparks999 to answer...

Definitely not allowed to drive. Spent a few years renting out cars and we used to get people trying on all sorts of tricks to convince us they had a licence.

Simple facts are the 12 months are a one off for when you first move abroad. Heading home for a weekend doesn`t grant you another 12 months.

It`s all about common sense.

Obviously you don`t want to feed your kids a bucket of raw chicken but some people go overboard.

Public and bank holidays
You do not have a statutory right to paid leave on bank and public holidays. If your employer gives paid leave on a bank or public holiday, this can count towards your minimum holiday entitlement

When the usual date of a bank or public holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, a `substitute day` is given, normally the following Monday. For example in 2009, Boxing Day is actually on Saturday, 26 December, so there is a substitute bank holiday on Monday, 28 December.

Mine was a tenner off ebay, there are loads of them around - got Sky and Xbox feeding into it and it does the job perfectly.

RE: Expect Windows 7 to be costly, Dell warns

Our work laptops have just been upgraded to Windows 7 Enterprise.

They all seem to boot up / shut down a lot faster than XP ever did, but it`s early days.

I like the new taskbar and it`s way of selecting windows, but after that I`m struggling to spot the difference from Vista from a home point of view.

What I`m listening to...

RE: What`s the current wait time on a Sky HD install?

Make sure you`re all over the install, sit and watch over it if needs be.

The bloke who fitted mine made a right mess and Sky have been completely unhelpful in every way imaginable when it comes to putting it right.

What I`m listening to...

RE: Virgin vs. Sky. What`s your thoughts?

My Virgin broadband is flawless, it`s far quicker than any BT phone line based broadband I`ve used. Maybe I`m just lucky.

And customer service wise, I`ve just had a Sky HD box installed and their customer service is absolutely shocking. Horrendous on every level. Virgin on the other hand have been brilliant generally. If it wasn`t for their lack of HD content I would never have considered going to Sky.

RE: What`s the current wait time on a Sky HD install?

Think it depends where abouts in the country you are.

I got mine within a week in the north east...but apparently some areas are higher demand though.

Almost wish I hadn`t bothered now though, the installer made a right mess of the brickwork outside.
