`One Hour Photo` - good film, have a query re the ending (SPOILER ALERT)
At the end, when Sy is sitting in the police station after harrassing, abusing and breaking into the Yorkins, an image comes up of him smiling...after zooming out, it shows the smiling Sy standing with the Yorkin family, being embraced.
Now, after doing the aforementioned acts, why should the Yorkins accept him? And why is she still with her husband after his infidelity? Or is it just Sy`s deluded fantasy?
TIA :-)

RE: `One Hour Photo` - good film, have a query re the ending (SPOILER ALERT)
I think he was slipping back into his fantasy world.
I don`t think he ever broke into their home (the first sequence showing that was book-ended with shots of him sitting in his car, and there was an abrupt lighting shift between the different locations).

It`s all in his head....I really should get this disc back to watch again. The audio commentary is good too, if you`ve got it...

Yeah, I gathered that he never went into their home (pretty obvious when they greet him as "Uncle Sy!"), but was unsure of the ending - although now, yeah, I do believe it is all in his head.
Very impressed with the film...will be adding the DVD to my wishlist.

RE: `One Hour Photo` - good film, have a query re the ending (SPOILER ALERT)
It`s weird that you are impressed and confused at the same time though (no?)... Just tossing that thought in for a minute because it occurs to me that badly-made films with misleading endings would be (rightly) criticised for it, yet One Hour Photo gets praise from people even though they obviously didn`t `get it`!. I re-itterate that I`m just tossing a thought out here though because 1) I quite enjoyed OHP myself, and 2) I also didn`t get it!!!. My confusion extended beyond the scene you mentioned though, as I felt the entire resolution was irritatingly vague...
Obviously, an unpredictable conclusion is always welcome (as long as it`s still clear what`s going on!), but I think in this case it just adds a slightly pretentious air to the whole film, and it pushes it over the line that separates offbeat gems from meandering arthouse nonesense... Like I say, I still enjoyed it, but I`d prefer to comprehend the whole film and appreciate what I see, rather than having to guess things and just assume it`s something clever...
RE: `One Hour Photo` - good film, have a query re the ending (SPOILER ALERT)
I didn`t realise One Hour Photo was a film that would confuse someone. I always thought it was pretty clear through-out what was fantasy and what was reality.
What exactly was it that confused you?
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, no matter how wrong it is ;-)
RE: `One Hour Photo` - good film, have a query re the ending (SPOILER ALERT)
It`s been a while since I watched it, but as I recall, the ending doesn`t satisfactorily convey what it was that he did (i.e the NOT taking photos of them in compromising positions) and it doesn`t resolve what actually happens to Williams character ... I`ve lent the film to a few people and it always comes back with questions about the ending, specifically "well... did he get away with it or what then?". Personally, I did realise that the fantasy parts were fantasy, but I did feel like I`d been left hanging at the end. And it was one of those occasions where I had to check the net to confirm what I thought...
I`m not saying it`s a like a David Lynch mind-trip or anything(!), just that the resolution is pretty muddled (especially considering how effective the first two thirds are)...
RE: `One Hour Photo` - good film, have a query re the ending (SPOILER ALERT)
I think the not taking the photos bit was just so the two lovers thought he was, to convey fear, especially to Yorkin as then his wife would have indisputable evidence of his actions. It then turned out that Parrish didn`t have the balls to take them, or maybe it was he didn`t have the balls to give her the evidence, and instead only pretended to take them. Also, since he didn`t take the photos of them in compromising positions, the police had no real evidence against him...so I believe that although he never did unite with the Yorkin family - now I know the final shot was fantasy - he didn`t get that hefty a punishment for his actions.

RE: `One Hour Photo` - good film, have a query re the ending (SPOILER ALERT)
This film was intriguing to begin with, but it never really got going. I was thinking something is going to happen in a minute but nothing did. The bit where Si goes into the hotel room and makes them get into compromising positions is risible and implausible. This was a character with no confidence whatsoever, realistically he would never do something as outrageous and spontaneous as that. The guy was extemely reserved and had never had sex, as if he would go and decide to do that, he would be terrified!
RE: `One Hour Photo` - good film, have a query re the ending (SPOILER ALERT)
...he would be terrified!
That he was - when he exits their room and heads back to his, watch his actions.
