BBFC Cut The Rules Of Attraction for DVD/Video by 94 seconds!!!!!!

chewie (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 4th September 2003, 18:28

Go here to check out the BBFC website for details.

BBFC at it again. Although this particular cut is very debatable as I can see the point behind it. But I am against censorship of any kind.

Now, I saw it uncut in the cinema so it doesn`t bother me too much and now I have to decide what region to get. R1, R3 or R4?

Can I ask: what is this `other` technique that was cut out?

Oh dear. The BBFC may have been revamped and reformed, but the attitudes of old still poke through the surface occasionally. :(

The offending scene features a girl comitting suicide by slitting her wrists - not ACROSS the veins, but DOWN (which is the "correct" way to do it apparently)... Anyone who wants to see the full UNCUT version of this film should only buy the Region 4 release all others are supposedly cut in some way.

Surely cutting across rips more of the veins?

A test: Run your finger firmly across your veins on your wrist. I bet it`s reasonably solid. Now run the same finger firmly down the way and I bet your skin goes "deeper" than it did across the way. Now imagine your finger were a knife. Or better yet, order the uncut DVD and see what happens ;)

To tell you the truth, I couldn`t remember the cutting "down the way" until someone mentioned it. But the scene in the film was as perfect as it could be and these cuts will most certainly ruin it.

After experimenting with my left wrist I now know how to cut myself if the need arises...

...yet am puzzled that the BBFC allow one method, and cut the other - especially in an already 18-rated film.

Cutting across means they can `simply` be rejoined whereas cutting along is much more difficult to fix and the blood would be lost quicker.
