School of Rock (and the R1 DVD)...

chewie (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 17th February 2004, 19:39

Just got an email from PlayUSA saying this has been posted, so will be expecting it on Friday :D

This film was a surprise for me. First off, Jack Black`s last lead role (that I remember seeing) was Shallow Hal, which is the worst Farrelly Brothers movie... by quite a long way. Anyway, I laughed from start to finish with this, something I haven`t done in the cinema for ages (probably since Dreamcatcher ;) ).

I can`t wait to see it again and I`m kinda glad it had a "delayed release", since it`s US release was last October or something. So I can get me hands on the DVD much quicker this way 8)

Anyone else seen it and what did you think? :)

I thought this was magnificently funny - completely engaging from start to finish. Like you I found myself laughing aloud. Jack Black is a tour de force - and this is was a movie that I enjoyed every bit as much as my children. Can`t wait to see it again ...and again! ;)

watched it on D/L so obviously couldn`t appreciate the music as much (ah, the irony) but found it very engaging, even though some aspects felt a bit like Sister Act 2.

Oh, and according to Imdb, the kids were selected for their musical ability rather than their acting ability.

if you had (have ?) read the book (dreamcatcher) you would cry rather than laugh, they really killed the heart of the book and how they handled duditz !!!!! can`t understand why king allowed that ? :/

... because Stephen King is a slag to the movie world, and doesn`t seem to give a s*** about how they interpret his books. Haven`t read the book, but I agree that Dreamcatcher was absolutely awful (aliens being born out of the arse???).

I liked School of Rock, but don`t think I`ll buy it on DVD as it won`t be a film that I`ll watch many times. And plus I have a top Xvid version of it anyway, that`ll do for the time being until it hits the sales. ;)

Anyone else here seen Orange County? Jack Black steals the film, as he also does in High Fidelity. :D

Jack was good in Orange County, pity he didn`t have a bigger part. School of Rock is just sooooooo cool! The funniest film i can remember for a long time

Slag of the movie world eh Ben? Well, can`t the same be said of most authors?

I mean, how many books have you read where the films actually do justice to the authors work? Not many I`ll bet!

I love King though - he`s my favourite author by far........which is one of the reasons I have yet to watch Dreamcatcher as it was, as I believe Chewie mentioned, a great, great read - and it did actually have me in tears at a couple of points (which both centered on Duddits).

Saying that, you can`t fault Pet Semetary, It (until the end) and Stand By Me - 3 top quality films (go on - call me a sh*t film liker ;-) )

So Ben, just out of interest, name me some films that are adaptations where you think the author hasn`t "pimped" him/herself.......this isn`t meant to be a dig by the way, just trying to build up some reading/film material!!

Cheers

Rob

SoR is the funniest movie I have seen for a long time. Took the kids who all enjoyed it, but most of the laughing was done by the older folk like meself. See it at a cinema with a kick-ass sound system.

Any of the Elmore Leonard adaptations. Oh, and Lord of the Rings. :D

All I was saying, was that out of all of Stephen Kings book to film adaptations, how many are actually any good?
