Once Upon a Time in America - fan-bloody-tastic!

Just finished watching my 2-disc R2 SE of Leone`s last film, and it was fantastic as everyone has said. The 220 minutes didn`t seem to drag, surprisingly. Aside from the miscasting of the older Deborah, everything else was so well crafted.

It`s worth getting hold of the DVD just so you can see Quentin Tarantino `geek out` in the documentary on disc two! :-D

Watch the documentary on disc two, `Once Upon a Time: Sergio Leone`...QT has two soundbites, one near the start and the other near the end. Hell, you can tell it`s him even if you have your eyes closed - he probably has the most recognisable/irritating voice ever. :-D

What do you mean? mis-casting of Deborah?. Elizabeth McGovern?.

Yup, it`s a brilliant film. But I never liked the ending much.

Yeah, Elizabeth McGovern - she didn`t age in the film in the `68 bit at the end, her acting was very limited and her voice annoyed me...it seems a strange choice for the part, whereas Connelly was better as the young Deborah. I think McGovern was too child-like in the part.

yeah but if you listen to the commentary he suggests that de niro is seeing deborah as he wants to remember her and that is why she appears not to have aged

That`s why I don`t like the ending. SPOILER:
All the "present" scenes hint towards the present being a dream, hence the strange reason James Woods disappears into thin air.
